Seniors Shine on Senior Day, Lead No. 4/4 QU Women's Ice Hockey Past Rensselaer, 4-0

HAMDEN, Connecticut – The nationally-ranked No. 4/4 Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team celebrated senior day in style as three seniors scored goals in the 4-0 shutout of the Rensselaer Engineers on Saturday evening at High Point Solutions Arena.
Nicole Connery (Newmarket, Ontario) recorded her second straight three-point game with one goal and two assists while Nicole Brown netted one goal and one assist for two points and Kristen Tamberg (North Toronto, Ontario) added a power-play goal. Fellow senior Nicole Kosta (Mississauga, Ontario) tallied three assists to tie Connery for the team lead in points.
With the win, the Bobcats extended their unbeaten streak to four games as they tied the program record for wins in a single season with 26 and set a new program record for conference wins in a single season with 16. Quinnipiac improved to 26-2-5 (16-2-4 ECAC Hockey) while Rensselaer dropped the decision to fall to 10-15-7 (8-9-5 ECAC Hockey).
Quinnipiac's 13-goal weekend was their most goals in a single weekend in program history after putting up nine goals against Union on Friday night.
Sydney Rossman (Excelsior, Minnesota) stepped in goal once again for the Bobcats as she set a new program record for wins in a single season with 26, breaking Chelsea Laden's record set just last season. Rossman needed just 14 saves to record her 15th shutout of the season, one shy of tying Laden's single season mark.
Connery's three-point day brings her within two points of the 100 career mark as she capped off a six-point weekend. Connery's goal was her 12th of the season and also picked up her 21st assist of the season to boost her season point total to 33.
Kosta's three assists on Saturday gives her a seven-point weekend for the Bobcats, as her second straight three-assist game tied her career-high. Kosta finished the game with 10 goals and 15 assists for 25 points this season.
With two points on Saturday, Brown tallied her sixth multiple-point game of the season. Brown reached the 20-point mark for the first time in her career, ending the game with 21 points this season.
Tamberg joined in on the senior day scoring with her fourth goal of the season, tallying all of her goals this season on the power play. Tamberg's goal gives her 20 points this season, the first 20 point season by a Quinnipiac women's ice hockey defenseman since Regan Boulton in the 2012-13 season.
Emma Greco (Burlington, Ontario) also got into the scoring action as she scored her first career goal, the second straight game the Bobcats had a player score their first career goal good for the game-winner. Greco's first goal came in her 102nd career game to give her five points this season.
The Bobcats power play continues to shine as they went 1 for 1 on the man advantage for the second straight game and have now scored a power-play goal in 11 of the last 12 games. Quinnipiac's power play was perfect once again, going 4 for 4 and increased their penalty kill to 92.6 percent.
Greco buried her first career goal just four minutes into the first period and the Bobcats never looked back. Connery touched the puck in the left circle to Kosta who circled back and skated the puck across the offensive zone. Kosta backhanded a pass to Greco at the point where she one-timed the shot past Rensselaer goaltender Lovisa Selander.
Quinnipiac held its one goal advantage until 3:20 into the second period when Brown scored to make it 2-0 over Rensselaer. Right off the faceoff, Kosta won the puck back to Connery at the top of the left face-off circle where she carried the puck into the slot before backhanding the puck to Brown on the left side of the crease. Brown tucked the puck past Selander for the goal.
Tamberg added her power-play goal just 58 seconds later to give the Bobcats 3-0 lead. Tamberg worked the puck at the left wing to Baumgardt on the point who then past it to Brown on the right wing. Brown stepped into a pass through the slot to Tamberg back on the left wing where she rifled a shot past Connery's screen in front of Selander for the goal.
Connery added a goal of her own with 3:52 to play in the second period for her third point of the game. Barry chased down the puck on the left side of the blue line before controlling the puck and dumping it behind the net. Kosta skated in from the right side to take the puck and hit Connery with a pass just inside the left face-off circle. Connery one-timed the shot past Selander for the 4-0 lead.
The No. 1 seeded Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team will face the No. 8 seed Rensselaer again next weekend to open the ECAC Hockey Playoffs in a best-of-three quarterfinal series. Games are slated for Friday at 2 PM, Saturday at 2 PM and Sunday at 2 PM, if necessary, with all games to be played at High Point Solutions Arena
