
Seven Players Record a Point as No. 8/8 QU Women's Ice Hockey Rolls to 4-0 Win at Union

SCHENECTADY, New York – No. 8/8 Quinnipiac women's ice hockey skated past Union, 4-0, on Friday evening at Messa Rink. The Bobcats improve to 12-4-3 (6-2-1 ECAC Hockey) with the victory, while Union falls to 2-13-0 (0-7-0 ECAC Hockey).
Kenzie Lancaster (Waxhaw, North Carolina) scored twice in the win, while Emma Woods (Burford, Ontario) and Melissa Samoskevich (Sandy Hook, Connecticut) each added a goal of their own. Alicia Barry (Hanson, Massachusetts) and Danielle Marmer (Dorset, Vermont) chipped in with two assists each, and Emma Greco (Burlington, Ontario), Kati Tabin (Winnipeg, Manitoba) and Woods each had one helper.
Freshman goalie Abbie Ives (Bedford Hills, New York) recorded her first career shutouts in the win. Ives made 12 saves in her second start of the season.
The Bobcats scored the game's first goal with 7:31 remaining in the first period. Marmer skated behind the net with the puck then fired a shot from the right side. The puck deflected out to Lancaster, who ripped another attempt toward net that found its way in to make it 1-0. The assist was Marmer's second of the year.
Quinnipiac captain Woods extended the lead with just 1:10 left in the first period. Barry delivered a cross-ice pass to Greco, then Greco set up the captain in the slot – where Woods buried a wrist shot to make it 2-0.
Samoskevich made it 3-0 with 6:24 left in the second stanza. Barry sent a cross-ice pass to Woods, who delivered a centering pass to the sophomore. Samoskevich fired the puck into the net for her sixth goal of the year to extend the lead to three. Woods and Barry were both awarded helpers on the play.
Woods now has 96 points in her career (39 goals, 57 assists).
Lancaster was next to get in on the scoring action, netting her second of the game and eighth goal in the last 11 games with 14:38 left in the third period. Marmer collected the puck in the middle of the ice and dumped it over to Tabin, who skipped a pass to Lancaster – who was able to put the puck into the net to extend the Bobcats' lead to four goals.
Lancaster now has eight goals in the last 11 contests.
The Bobcats recorded 43 shots to Union's 12. Quinnipiac has 132 shots in its last three games. The team also won 36 of 48 faceoffs on the night.
Quinnipiac is back in action on Saturday, Dec. 3 – traveling to RPI for a 6 p.m. puck drop to conclude the first half of the season.
