
QU Men's Ice Hockey Ranked 7th IN USCHO Poll, 8th In USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll

Quinnipiac men's ice hockey was ranked 7th in the latest USCHO.com Division I Poll and 8th in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll, as announced on Monday, Nov. 7, 2016. Quinnipiac is currently 5-3-1 overall and 1-1-0 in ECAC Hockey through its first weekend of league play.
The Bobcats are coming off a weekend of ECAC Hockey action that saw Quinnipiac defeat Clarkson, 5-3, at Cheel Arena in Potsdam, New York before being dealt a 2-0 loss at St. Lawrence's Appleton Arena in Canton, New York. On Friday night, the Bobcats were led by multiple-point games from Tim Clifton (Matawan, New Jersey), Craig Martin (Trail, British Columbia), Kevin McKernan (Millbury, Massachusetts) and Brogan Rafferty (Dundee, Illinois). Clifton scored twice and assisted on another while Martin chipped in with three assists. McKernan scored his first goal of the year and assisted on another while Rafferty added to his team-leading assist total with two helpers in the game. Bobcat freshman Andrew Shortridge (Anchorage, Alaska) stopped 25 of Clarkson's 27 shots on goal for his first career conference win.
For the year, Clifton leads the Bobcats in goals (5) while also picking up three assists for a team-best eight points.Clifton also leads the team with three power-play goals while his 17 career power play goals are second among active NCAA Division I players. Rafferty's first-year point total also stands at eight points through his first eight games on the strength of a team-leading seven assists. McKernan checks in with a goal and five assists for six points while he also leads the team with a +6.
In goal, Chris Truehl (Madison, Wisconsin) is 3-2-1 with a 2.31 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage while Shortridge is 2-1-0 with a 2.34 GAA and a .903 save percentage. Truehl took the hard-luck loss on Saturday night after a 32-save performance against St. Lawrence fell short after a pair of break-away goals padded the Saints' 2-0 win.
The Bobcats are back in action this weekend when it hosts Dartmouth on Friday, Nov. 11 and Harvard on Saturday, Nov. 12. Quinnipiac's tilt against the Crimson can be seen live on SNY.
