
QU Men's Soccer Ranked No. 5 in NSCAA Division I Regional Poll

HAMDEN, Connecticut - Quinnipiac men's soccer has been ranked No. 5 overall in the Northeast Region of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division I Poll, as announced on Tuesday, Oct. 18.
The Bobcats have won five straight conference games dating back to Oct. 1, moving their overall record to 9-5-0 on the season. Quinnipiac has beaten Marist, Manhattan, Canisius, Iona and Monmouth to move into first place in the MAAC. Rider (No. 2) and Marist (No. 9) were also ranked in the Top 10 of the poll.
Quinnipiac topped Iona, 2-1, and Monmouth, 3-1, this past week for its two latest wins. Senior captain James Doig (Liverpool, England) netted the game-winner in overtime for the Bobcats on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at Iona. Ryan Scheiderman (Brick, New Jersey) also scored in the come-from-behind win, the second of its kind this year. James Doig (Liverpool, England), Eamon Whelan (New Fairfield, Connecticut) and Matthew Taylor (Dublin, Ireland) then all recorded a goal in a home win vs. Monmouth on Saturday, Oct. 15.
Chrysostomos Iakovidis (Thessaloniki, Greece) registered six saves in both games. He was named MAAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday, Oct. 17.
The Bobcats are back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 19, hosting Siena at home in a match that will determine first place. Kickoff from the QU Soccer Field in Hamden is scheduled for 3 p.m.
