
QU Women's Golf Completes First Day of Quinnipiac Classic in Fifth Place

HAMDEN, Connecticut – The Quinnipiac University women's golf team finished fifth out of 11 teams after the first day of the three-round Quinnipiac Classic at New Haven Country Club in Hamden, Conn. The Bobcats entertained a 63-player field through 36 holes at the historic golf course and landed three players in the top 15.
Sophomore Luciana Tobia-Palza (La Paz, Bolivia) completed the first day's two rounds tied for sixth place with a 162 (+22) after shooting 80 (+10) on the first 18 holes and following with an 82 (+12) on the second round. Tobia's first round was highlighted by birdies on holes 14 and 16 while she wrapped up her second round with four-straight pars.
Estefania Morales (Caracas, Venezuela) and Emily Ribbins (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) both tied for 12th place as the duo both carded a 164 (+24). Morales shot an 85 (+15) on the first 18 holes of the day before shooting a 79 (+9) for the second 18, which was highlighted by birdies on holes No. 8 and No. 18.
Ribbins opened the day with an 84 (+14) for the first round which showcased four pars through the first six on the front nine. Ribbins' second round saw the fourth-year Bobcat, honored before the start of the day as part of Senior Day, bogey her first hole before birdying the next. Ribbins then double-bogeyed hole No. 16 before settling in and shooting par on five of her next six holes.
Sophomore Julia Kemmling (Berlin, Connecticut) had the Bobcats' best round of the day with a 78 (+8) on the second round. Kemmling opened the day with a 91 (+21) that was plagued by a +10 stretch over the first four holes of the back nine. Kemmling settled in and cut 13 strokes off her first-round total to move up 24 spots between the end of the first and second rounds. Kemmling, starting on hole No. 8, was six-over through her first nine holes before shooting two over with pars on seven of her final nine holes for the day.
The final 18 holes of the 6th Annual Quinnipiac Classic will commence on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 9 a.m.
