Timpson Posts Program Record 16.51m in the Weight Throw
STATEN ISLAND, New York – The underclassmen contingent for the Quinnipiac women's indoor track and field team continue to produce at an elite level as the Bobcats competed in the NYC Gotham Cup on Friday evening at the Ocean Breeze Complex in Staten Island. Freshman Carly Timpson (Narragansett, Rhode Island) played a leading role once again as the rookie shined with another program record-breaking performance in one of her signature events.
Timpson continues to make waves for the program as earlier this season she became the program's first-ever competitor in the weight throw event. Fast forward a little over a month and not only has she done what no Bobcat has before, she is starting to compete with the best weight throwers in the region. On Friday, Timpson threw a program record 16.51m in the weight throw to take 3rd place out of 32 competitors while she led all freshman throwers in the event. Her impressive day continued as Timpson racked up another Top 10 result, this time in the high jump as she posted 1.60m to tie for 8th place out of 30 high jumpers.
Sophomore Leah Pfrommer (Killingworth, Connecticut) had herself a fine day in the long jump as she took 14th place out of 51 with a jump of 5.54m. Continuing in the field events, one of the bigger surprises of the day came via sophomore walk-on Emily Joerg (Poughkeepsie, New York) as she finished with a jump of 10.61m in the triple jump to set a new personal-best and vault all the way up to second place in the all-time triple jump record list at Quinnipiac. Sophomore Mackenzie Merkel (Hillsdale, New Jersey) also had a solid showing with a throw of 11.22m in the shot put to take 17th out of 43.
The underclassmen contingent continued to produce in the running events as sophomore Christina Barbaro (Elk Township, New Jersey) placed 18th out of 45 in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.42 seconds.
Junior Alyson Caron (Andover, New Jersey) continued her strong season as she led the way for the Bobcats with an 11th place finish and time of 5:09.42 in the one mile event. Freshman Kaitlyn Hebert (Glastonbury, Connecticut) also showed well in the same event with a time of 5:15.65 which was good enough for 16th place out of 43. Finally, junior Cameron Chaplen (Thomaston, Connecticut) clocked in at 3:08.74 in the 1000m to take 22nd place overall.
Quinnipiac will be back in action a week from now on Friday, January 29 at the Terrier Invite on the campus of Boston University.
