
QU Women's Volleyball Falls to NC A&T and Delaware St. on Saturday

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – The Quinnipiac University volleyball team dropped to 0-3 in the Maryland Eastern Shore Invitational on Saturday afternoon after two tough losses. The Bobcats fell to North Carolina A&T in a grueling five set match (25-20, 25-23, 15-25, 26-28, 13-15) before being handed their second defeat of the day by the Delaware State Hornets (22-25, 20-25, 25-22, 18-25). Junior outside hitter Katie Urycki (Chesterton, Indiana) had a tremendous day on the court, posting two double-doubles including 34 kills and 24 digs.
The Bobcats were dealt a hard fought loss against North Carolina A&T on Saturday morning. After losing the first two sets to Quinnipiac, the Aggies battled back to win the final three. Urycki posted her second double-double of the season with a team-high 17 kills while adding 11 digs. Sophomore Jamie Termotto (Smithtown, New York) recorded a career high 17 kills while freshman Kat Miller (Collegeville, Pennsylvania) led the team with 14 digs. Setter Sierra Dawson (Larkspur, California) had an impressive showing, setting up her teammates with 31 assists.
Quinnipiac defeated the Aggies 25-20 in the first frame which was arguably their best set of the early season. The Bobcats put up season highs with 18 kills in a .448 hitting percentage. QU jumped out to an early 4-0 lead before eventually extending their advantage to nine points. NC A&T came back with a furious rally to cut the lead to two at 19-21. Urycki came through with two consecutive kills and ended the opening set with her sixth kill of the match.
The Bobcats played another strong set in the second to take a 2-0 lead. Quinnipiac registered 14 kills and a .333 hitting percentage in the 25-23 win. Down late in the set 17-18, a QU timeout led to five straight points. After a couple Aggie points cut the lead to 24-23, Miller closed out the set with a kill off a Dawson set. Termotto registered six kills in the frame.
Quinnipiac's hitting percentage dropped to just .107 in the third set while they managed to compile seven kills. North Carolina A&T came through with their best set when they needed it most, tallying 17 kills and a .333 hitting percentage. The Aggies took the third set, 25-15, after going up 2-0 and never losing the lead. They scored six of the final seven points of the frame to close out the set.
The fourth set represented the closest set of the match. Quinnipiac was down by as many as six in the set, even trailing 17-22 late in the frame. Four straight points by the Bobcats cut the advantage to just one. After the Aggies took a 24-21 lead, Quinnipiac again battled back with three points in a row to tie the game. The Bobcats eventually took a 26-25 lead needing just one point to end the match and walk away with a victory. NC A&T answered with three consecutive points to tie the match at 2-2.
In the deciding fifth set to 15 points, the Bobcats fell 13-15. Quinnipiac captured an 11-10 lead off a Chandler Thornton (Arlington, Texas) ace, but were unable to sustain it. The Aggies took five of the final seven points to seal their first win of the 2015 season.
Against Delaware State, the Bobcats dropped the first two sets before taking one of their own. The Hornets closed out the match with a victory in the fourth set. Urycki put up her second double-double of the day with another 17 kills and a season-high 13 digs. Junior Cody Michaels (Versailles, Kentucky) led Quinnipiac with 19 digs while Thornton had a solid performance, recording six kills and 13 digs.

The Bobcats were up late in the set 18-16, but after four points by DSU, Quinnipiac was unable to regain the lead. In the second set, QU scored four straight points to take a 16-14 lead, but seven points in a row by the Hornets put the set out of reach.
