NASHVILLE, Tennessee – Centerfielder Mike Palladino (Rockville Center, New York) ripped three doubles in Quinnipiac's second straight doubleheader as the offense put 11 runs up on the board in two games, but it wasn't enough as the Bobcats fell to the Bradley Braves, 7-6, and the Belmont Bruins, 11-5, Saturday at E.S. Rose Park.
Palladino combined to go 4-10 in the doubleheader (2-5 in each game) with the three doubles with a run and a RBI in Game One vs. Bradley.
The Bobcats scored 11 runs on 16 hits in the doubleheader as the offense has put up solid numbers through the first eight games of the season, averaging nearly five runs per game.
Game One
Vincent Guglietti (East Haven, Connecticut) went deep for the first time this season with a two-run home run as the Bobcats' first baseman went 1-3 with the two-run home run and a pair of walks to lead the offense.
Palladino went 2-5 with a double, a run and a RBI while Julius Saporito (Manalapan, New Jersey) went 1-4 with a RBI and Brian Ruditys (Boothwyn, Pennsylvania) went 1-3 with a walk and a run.
Starting pitcher Wyatt Hamilton (Falmouth, Massachusetts) picked up his second loss of the season to go to 0-2. He lasted four innings for the second straight outing, giving up six earned runs on four hits with three walks and a career high seven strikeouts. Hamilton picked up multiple strikeouts in three of the four innings on the mound.
After three perfect innings on the mound from Hamilton, the Bobcats took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning. Palladino and Saporito were both retired before Matthew Batten (Shelton, Connecticut) walked. Guglietti stepped up to the plate a pulled home run over the right field fence to put the Bobcats on top.
The Braves responded by scoring seven runs in innings four through six, ultimately chasing Hamilton from the game in the fifth inning. In the top of the fourth inning with a two-out, RBI double from Paul Solka after a lead-off double from Chris Godinez.
Hamilton faced four batters in the top of the fifth inning without recording an out before yielding the ball to Gary Binkiewicz (Scotch Plains, New Jersey) with the bases loaded and one run already in. After a strikeout and a force out at home, Elliot Ashbeck cleared the bases with an RBI double down the right field line to make it 6-2 Braves.
Bradley scored one more run on Binkiewicz with an RBI single by Beer to centerfield which scored Gruener from second base.
The Bobcats made things interesting in the bottom of the ninth inning by scoring four runs with a two-out rally, nearly coming back to salvage a split with the Braves in their two-game series with each other. Scott Donaghue (Marlboro, New Jersey) reached on a fielder's choice that forced out Lou Iannotti (North Haven, Connecticut) at second base and Anthony Cruz (Burlington, Massachusetts) popped out for the second out. Dale Long (Saratoga Springs, New York) was hit by a pitch and Ruditys walked to load the bases with two outs. Palladino singled up the middle to centerfield to drive in Donaghue and keep the bases loaded. Saporito brought home a second run after he was hit by a pitch to score Long. With two runs already in, the Braves opted for a pitching change to bring in Matt Dennis for Drew Peters. Dennis walked the first two batters he faced in Batten and Guglietti to bring Quinnipiac within a run, but Iannotti struck out with the bases loaded to end the game.
Cameron Roegner (1-0) earned his first win of the season for the Braves as he tossed six innings allowing two runs on three hits with three walks. After a rough outing for Peters in .2 innings where he allowed four runs on a hit, a walk and hit two batters, Bradley's Dennis picked up his fourth save of the season.

Alec Diamond went 3-5 with two RBI for the Bruins while Matt Beaty was 4-5 with a pair of doubles and a pair of runs scored.
Four different Bobcats recorded two or more hits in the second game. Donaghue led the Bobcats offensively going 3-4 with a double, a walk and a RBI, Palladino roped two doubles going 2-5. Iannotti went 2-4 with a double and a pair of runs scored.

Belmont took a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on three hits and five walks issued by Scaglione as the Bruins sent 11 men to bat.
The score remained 6-0 until the Bobcats got a run back in the top of the fourth inning. Iannotti and Donaghue started in the inning with back-to-back singles. With two outs, Matthew Payero (Corona, New York) walked to load the based before Palladino reached on an error that scored Iannotti but Donaghue was eventually thrown out advancing from second to third base to end the inning.
The Bruins extended their lead to 10-1 after two runs in the bottom of the fourth and seventh innings. Back-to-back doubles from Tyler Walsh and Desi Ammons brought home the pair of runs in the fourth before William Dodd hit a home run to centerfield in the seventh.
Quinnipiac got two runs back in the top of the eighth inning after the Bobcats loaded the bases with a Guglietti walk, Iannotti hit by pitch and Donaghue walk. Christopher Carroll faced just those three batters for the Bruins before leaving the game for Scott Moses. Ben Gibson (Sagamore Beach, Massachusetts) lifted a fly ball to right field for a RBI sacrifice fly to score Guglietti from third and advance Iannotti from second to third. Hahn stepped up to the box and roped a single to centerfield that scored Iannotti for his first career RBI.
After a Belmont run in the bottom of the eighth inning to make it 11-3, Quinnipiac added two more runs in the top of the ninth inning. John Bodenhamer (Maple Valley, Washington) reached on an error and moved up to second base on the throw, and moved to third on a single by Batten. Matthew Oestreicher (North Haven, Connecticut) pinch hit for Guglietti and picked up his first RBI of the season with a RBI groundout to score Bodenhamer, his first run scored as a Bobcat. Batten moved up to third base on an Iannotti groundout before coming home to score on a Donaghue double to the right field for the Bobcats' fifth and final run of the game.
Quinnipiac will have the day off on Monday before returning to action Tuesday when they face the defending champion, nationally-ranked No. 1 Vanderbilt Commodores at 7:30 P.M. EDT (6:30 P.M. CDT) at Charles Hawkins Field. Both games of their two-game series will be featured on ESPN3 through the SEC Network.
