
QU Men's Tennis Falls in Close Match to Bryant, 4-3

NORTH HAVEN, Connecticut – The Quinnipiac men's tennis team played a highly competitive match with the Bryant Bulldogs but the Bobcats narrowly lost 4-3 to the Bulldogs at the North Haven Health and Racquet Club Saturday night.
Willem van Biezen (Warmond, The Netherlands) and Kyle Alper (Dix Hills, New York) picked up two individual victories for the Bobcats as they won in singles and won the extra doubles match played against the Bulldogs played between the two teams.
Luke Roser (Bernardsville, New Jersey), Alper and van Biezen all won singles matches for the Bobcats while Kei Ezaka (Ojai, California) and Ryoma Haraguchi (New York, New York) combined for the Bobcats doubles win in the match.
The Bobcats record falls to 4-6 this season despite being competitive in nearly every match while the Bulldogs improve to 3-9.
Bryant took the doubles point to start off the match after taking two of the three matches against Quinnipiac. Ezaka and Haraguchi teamed up at No. 1 doubles and picked up a dominant win over Joshua Kliger and Matt Kuhar. The top doubles match was the last to finish in the event after an injury timeout. Ezaka and Haraguchi came out on top, 8-6.
The Bulldogs took No. 2 and No. 3 doubles in order to take the point. Luke Roser (Bernardsville, New Jersey) and Carlos Fernandez (Mexico City, Mexico) took the court for the Bobcats at No. 3 doubles and after a highly contested match, the Bobcats pair fell to Luke Lorenz and Oliver Welsh, 8-6. In No. 2 doubles, Eric Ambrosio (Lloyd Harbor, New York) and Sebastian Barbero (Buenos Aires, Argentina) were beaten by Zach Morris and Ernesto Arguello, 8-3.
Both teams played an extra doubles match that counted towards the players' individual but not towards the match. Alper and van Biezen competed well and picked up the victory, defeating Richard Sipala and Max Vogt, 8-5.
Three of the six singles matches went to a third set, with the Bobcats coming away with one of them. Alper picked up the Bobcats lone three-set victory as he won the first and third sets to take the match over Welsh, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2. Roser and van Biezen each won their matches in commanding fashion. Roser took on Lorenz at No. 3 singles and won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. In No. 6 singles, van Biezen took on Jorge Ortiz, who competed for the first time in the match, and van Biezen won, 6-3, 6-3 as well.
Bryant took three points in singles to win the match, 4-3. Barbero competed at No. 5 singles and nearly forced a third set after coming back from down three points to force the break but fell to Vogt in two sets, 6-4, 7-5. Both No. 1 and No. 2 singles went to three sets. Ambrosio battled at No. 2 singles with Morris as Ambrosio forced a third set but Morris took the match, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. With the match tied 3-3, Ezaka and Kuhar were the final match to complete. Ezaka battled to force a third set but Kuhar was able to win the match, 6-1, 6-7 (4), 6-0.

The Bobcats hit the road for their next three matches, including a road trip next weekend when they travel to Upstate New York to face the Niagara Purple Eagles on Saturday, March 28 at 1 P.M. in their first road MAAC match of the season followed by a non-conference matchup with the St. Bonaventure Bonnies on Sunday, March 29 at 10 A.M.
