NASHVILLE, Tennessee – The Quinnipiac baseball team dropped the final game of a three-game series with the Lipscomb Bisons 3-1 Sunday afternoon as the Bisons completed a sweep of the Bobcats on the weekend.
With the win, Lipscomb improves to 11-5 this season after sweeping Quinnipiac while the Bobcats drop to 2-11 after the loss.
John Bodenhamer (Maple Valley, Washington) ripped the only extra base hit of the game for the Bobcats as he went 1-4 with a triple and a run scored while Dale Long (Saratoga Springs, New York) went 1-3 with a RBI which brought home Bodenhamer
Bodenhamer has recorded a base hit in three of his last four games and has reached base in five straight games. Long has reached base in all eight games he has appeared in this season and went 3-6 in the final two games of the series against Lipscomb with three RBI and a walk.
Starting pitcher Joseph Scaglione (Wyckoff, New Jersey) posted his longest start of the season with a six inning effort where he gave up three runs on seven hits with one walk and four strikeouts. Scaglione allowed two runs in the first inning on three hits before settling down to allow just one run on four hits in his final five innings of work.
Gary Binkiewicz (Scotch Plains, New Jersey) made his fourth appearance of the season for the Bobcats where he pitched the final two innings in relief of Scaglione, allowing just one hit to lower his ERA to 1.69 out of the bullpen.
Lipscomb jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning over Quinnipiac. The Bisons used three straight singles to take a 1-0 lead to start the game as Allison brought home Lee with a RBI single to right field. Massey scored the second run of the game when Hanks brought him home on a sacrifice fly to right field.
The Bobcats answered in the top of the second inning when they cut the Bisons' lead in half. Bodenhamer ripped a triple to centerfield on a 2-0 count with one out in the inning. After a Scott Donaghue (Marlboro, New Jersey) lineout to second base, Long reached on an infield single on the first pitch he saw to bring him Bodenhamer.
Scaglione kept the Bisons off the board until the fifth inning when Allison doubled to right field to bring home Lee after a walk and a stolen base.
Quinnipiac nearly answer again in the top of the six inning as Mike Palladino (Rockville Centre, New York) reached on a one-out single to center and Vincent Guglietti (East Haven, Connecticut) singled up the middle with two outs, but the pair were stranded on base to end the inning.
The Bobcats return north after a nine-game trip to Nashville where they are scheduled to face the University of Rhode Island Rams on Wednesday, March 18 at Bill Beck Field in Kingston, Rhode Island with first pitch set for 3 P.M.
