NASHVILLE, Tennessee – Lou Iannotti (North Haven) singled in the fifth inning to extend his on-streak to 11 games, the longest streak of his Quinnipiac career, as the Quinnipiac baseball team lost the opening game of a three-game series with the Lipscomb Bisons, 5-0.
Iannotti also stole a base to put himself into scoring position as he picked up his fourth stolen base of the season in as many opportunities. The single was Iannotti's only hit of the game as he finished 1-4 as the No. 5 hitter. Iannotti's previous best on-base streak was 10 games during the 2013-14 season from Apr. 6, 2014 to Apr. 22, 2014.
John Bodenhamer (Maple Valley, Washington) went 1-3 with a double as the designated hitter while second baseman Noah Hahn (Petaluma, California) finished 1-2 with a walk as the Bobcats only three hits. Brian Ruditys (Boothwyn, Pennsylvania) walked twice for the Bobcats as they drew four walks as a team.
Starting pitcher Thomas Jankins (West Brookfield, Massachusetts) picked up his second loss of the season but pitched seven innings for the second time in three starts. Jankins (1-2) allowed five runs on eight hits with three walks and two strikeouts in the losing effort for the Bobcats. Matthew Lorenzetti (Marlboro, New Jersey) pitched a scoreless eighth inning in relief.
Both teams were scoreless through the first 4.5 innings of the game before Lipscomb scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take the lead. After two walks and a wild pitch put runners on second and third with one out for the Bisons, and Mike Korte hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Allan Hooker for the first run of the game. A RBI single by Adam Lee followed to give Lipscomb a 2-0 lead. In the top half of the fifth inning, Iannotti was stranded at second base after a single and stolen base.
Lipscomb scored another run in the sixth inning on Jonathon Allison's RBI groundout after Michael Gigliotti doubled to lead off the inning and moved to third base on another groundout before Allison's. The Bison's scored two more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Hooker singled to lead off the inning followed by a double down the left field line by Tyler Ashcraft to put runners on second and third. Jeffrey Crisan lifted the Bison's second sacrifice fly to left field to score Hooker followed by Korte's RBI single to centerfield.
The Bobcats loaded up the bases with two outs in the eighth inning but could not get a run across the plate. Bodenhamer doubled with two outs in the inning followed by back-to-back walks by Hahn and Ruditys. With a full count and the bases loaded, Mike Palladino (Rockville Centre, New York) struck out to end the inning.
