HAMDEN, Connecticut – Members of the Quinnipiac Student-Athlete Advisory Committee delivered toys collected in their annual toy drive at the Hamden Community Center on Friday, Dec. 18, 2015.
This year, SAAC collected over 500 toys, with over 300 of the donations coming from Quinnipiac student-athletes and delivered to the Keefe Community Center in Hamden, Connecticut . The remainder of the toys were collected over a two-week span at games at the TD Bank Sports Center and donated to The Child Life Program at Yale New Haven Children's Hospital.
"I've been doing it for a couple years now but it's so fun every year," Quinnipiac field hockey senior and SAAC Co-Chair Savanna Reilly (Hamden, Connecticut) said. "This is the best part, getting to go and bring to the kids, see how excited they get."
Quinnipiac baseball pitcher Matt Lorenzetti (Marlboro, New Jersey) dressed up as Santa Claus at the event while he and the rest of the members of SAAC handed out toys to the children at the Keefe Community Center.
Through events like these, SAAC continues to reach its goal of having a larger impact in the Quinnipiac community. Last month, SAAC held a Thanksgiving Food Drive where they donated food to the Hamden community for the holiday season, among the other involvement Quinnipiac student-athletes have had throughout the 2015-16 academic school year.
