
Rally Comes Up Short As QU Volleyball Drops Four-Setter

Jersey City, N.J.- The Quinnipiac Bobcats couldn't come from behind on Sunday afternoon as they feel to Saint Peter's by the final of 3-1. For the second time this weekend the Bobcats fought to get out of an early hole by taking the third set in the match but couldn't overcome the early 2-0 deficit.
In the first set the Bobcats and Peacocks were dead even at 19 before St. Peter's went on a 4-1 run. After a QU timeout, Freshmen Kat Miller (Collegeville, Pa.) responded with a kill within two. Bobcats would have their opportunities but two straight attack errors would cost QU the first set.
In the second set Quinnipiac put themselves into position to take the match after falling behind 23-17. QU would score five points in a row propelled by sophomore Elizabeth Kloos (Munster, Ind.) with two kills in the run. Despite the run, the deficit proved to much as St. Peter's took the second set (25-23).
QU's offense roared to life in the third set as the Bobcats rolled to a (25-14) win in that set. In the set Freshmen Jen Coffey (Merrimack, NH) and Junior Katie Urycki (Chesterton, Ind.) had (5) kills a piece while Urycki had the set winning kill.
In the fourth set, the Bobcats would hold a late lead (22-20) but the Peacocks would outscore Quinnipiac 4-1 to take a 24-23 lead. Urycki's kill would tie the game at 24 but the Peacocks scored the final two points to take the set (26-24) and the match (3-1).
Jen Coffey led the team with 15 kills, her second highest kill toll of the season with her best performance coming on 10/25 vs. UMass Lowell with 18 kills. Over her past four games Coffey is averaging 11.5 kills per game.
Katie Urycki (pictured) finished second the team with 13 kills against the Peacocks. Urycki leads Quinnipiac with (262) kills this season and had the game winning kill in the third set. Miller finished third on the team with 11 kills and second with assists (8). Miller leads QU on the season with(453) assists even though this match broke her four game streak of 20 or more assists in a game.
Miller had a strong game for Quinnipiac leading the team with 29 assists and eight digs. Over her past four games she is averaging (28.5) assists per game. Currently, she leads the team in assists, digs, and double doubles.
Junior Sam Alechko (Old Tappan, N.J.) led Quinnipiac with six blocks adding six kills in the game. In her last four of the last six games Alechko has had five or more blocks in a game.Another junior Emma Ogden (Crown Point, Ind.) had her second double double of the season leading the Bobcats in both assists (28) and digs (16) both season highs. Fellow junior Cody Michaels (Versailles, Ky.) finished second on the team with 15 digs.
Quinnipiac will be back in action in action for their final home weekend with two conference showdowns next Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday November 14th the Bobcats will host the Iona Gaels at 1 p.m. and then on Sunday at 1 p.m. they will host the Manhattan Jaspers.
