Smith's goal came off a pass from Joe Fiala (Madison, Wisconsin) who picked up a loose puck along the boards in the Bobcats' defensive zone. Fiala fed Smith at the red line in front of the Bobcats bench for the sophomore sniper walked between the face-off circles and blasted a shot bar-down on Trudeau for the two-goal lead.
Midway through the third period, Derek Smith (Apple Valley, Minnesota) handled the puck above the face-off circle in front of St. Thomas' bench before zipping a pass across the St. Thomas zone to Connor Clifton at the opposite point. Clifton blasted a shot on goal, into traffic where Pieper was able to re-direct it past Trudeau to give the Bobcats a three-goal lead.
