QU Women's Volleyball Drops Conference Match to Fairfield, 3-0

Katie Urycki Leads Bobcats with 10 Kills
HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University women's volleyball team dropped a conference matchup to interstate rival, Fairfield, 3-0 (16-25, 17-25, 15-25) on Thursday night. Junior outside hitter Katie Urycki (Chesteron, Indiana) led the Bobcat offense with 10 kills while also contributing five digs on the defensive side.
The team sported pink uniforms as they hosted the second annual Dig Pink Event to benefit the Side-Out Foundation and breast cancer research. A large Bobcat crowd showed up to help spread awareness and raise donations for a great cause.
Sophomore Elizabeth Kloos (Munster, Indiana) finished the night with six kills on 11 swings, hitting at a .455 clip and adding five blocks to her team leading total of 78 on the season. Freshman Kat Miller (Collegeville, Pennsylvania) posted a game high 21 assists while tying Kloos' total with five blocks.
The Stags secured a 25-16 victory in the opening set, tallying 12 kills to the Bobcats' five. After three straight points by QU to take a 10-9 advantage, Fairfield answered by closing out the set on a 14-6 run including the final four points of the frame.
In the second set, Miller posted nine digs and three blocks while Urycki and freshman Jen Coffey (Merrimack, New Hampshire) each recorded three kills apiece, but the Bobcats fell 25-17.
Down by six in the middle of the set, Quinnipiac scored three straight points to cut the lead in half. Kloos led the mini run with a kill followed by two attack errors by the Stags. Leading 13-10, Fairfield scored four consecutive points to put the game too far out of reach for the Bobcats.
Quinnipiac played their best set of the day in the third frame, but so did the Stags as they closed out the match, 25-15. The Bobcats smashed 10 kills on 21 attacks with a .190 hitting percentage while the opposition came through with 17 kills and a .615 attack percentage.
Urycki recorded five kills and Kloos added four slams on just five swings in the final set. Miller finished the frame with 10 assists.
The Bobcats are back in action on Sunday, October 25 with their second visit of the season to UMass Lowell. Quinnipiac will take on the River Hawks at 1 p.m. from the Costello Athletic Center. Earlier this season at the UMass Lowell Invitational the Bobcats fell to the River Hawks in five sets (20-25, 25-11, 19-25, 25-17, 5-15).
