COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado – No. 3/4 Quinnipiac women's ice hockey goaltender Chelsea Laden (Lakeville, Minnesota) was featured on USA Hockey's "Kaz Watch" which highlights potential candidates for the Patty Kazmaier Award, released by USA Hockey on Wednesday.
The article not only highlights the spectacular season Laden is having, but discusses how the team has gotten to where it is at this point and how Laden fell in love with hockey.
This season as a senior, Laden is having a career year as she is 20-1-2 between the pipes for the Bobcats. Laden has hit several milestones along the way to being highlighted by the "Kaz Watch."
Laden surpassed former goaltender Victoria Vigilanti's single-season program record for shutouts in a season of 10, as Laden has amassed 12 shutouts thus far. Laden is also on the verge of breaking Vigilanti's single-season program record for wins in a season of 21, as Laden sits at 20.
Laden leads all of NCAA Division I women's ice hockey in wins (20), shutouts (12) and goals against average (0.78). She also has been named ECAC Hockey Women's Goaltender of the Week three times, ECAC Hockey Women's Goaltender of the Month twice, and Quinnipiac Athlete of the Month twice.
The Patty Kazmaier Award goes to the top player in NCAA Division I women's ice hockey, with selective criteria factoring in individual and team skills, sportsmanship, clutch performance, personal character, competitiveness and love for hockey.
Patty Kazmaier represented each of these characteristics while playing college hockey at Princeton University and passed away at 28 years old from a rare blood disease in 1990.
The Bobcats return to the ice Wednesday night for a top 10 matchup with the No. 7/6 Boston University Terriers at Walter Brown Arena with puck drop set for 7 P.M.
