Hamden, Conn. – Quinnipiac men's soccer senior goalkeeper Borja Angoitia (Bilbao, Spain) was selected to the 2014 Division I Men's Soccer All-Star team, announced by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC). Angoitia was honored on the second team along with Army's goalkeeper, Winston Boldt.
Cameron Porter a senior from Princeton University was named Offensive Player of the Year by the ECAC while Oumar Ballo of the University of Maryland Baltimore County earned Defense Player of the Year. Bello's head coach Pete Caringi was named Coach of the Year and Rider freshman Florian Valot was selected as Rookie of the Year.
Christian Flath from Rider, Iona's Ignacio Maganto and Matt Jeffery join Angoitia as the only four players from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). Flath and Maganto were selected to the first team with Jeffery on the second.
The selection for Angoitia is his second honor in less than a week after being named to the NSCAA All-Northeast Region Team. He was also named 2014 MAAC Goalkeeper of the Year for the second consecutive season after leading the Bobcats to an undefeated conference record of 7-0-3. Angoitia finished his senior campaign with two program records for career shutouts and all-time wins. He recorded nine shutouts on the year while adding nine wins for 32 all-time. While leading Quinnipiac to a MAAC Regular Season Championship and a 10-4-5 overall record, he added a goal and an assist.
Angoitia ended his season ranked third in the league with a 0.73 goals against average and a .849 save percentage. As the regular season came to a close, the Bobcats had not dropped a game in 12 tries tying the longest unbeaten streak in Quinnipiac's division one history since 2007 when Eric Da Costa's squad opened the season without a loss through its first 12 games, posting a 9-0-3 record. Their season came to an end after a scoreless draw through overtime to Fairfield in the semifinals. Quinnipiac fell in penalty kicks 3-1.
