Nationally-ranked No.14 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey was featured on CollegeHockeyNews.com on Wednesday, Nov. 19 in an article by CHN Senior Writer Joe Meloni.
The article, "In His Image: Quinnipiac Follows Confident Pecknold", highlights Quinnipiac's growth as a program under the guidance of Bobcats' head coach Rand Pecknold, now in his 21st season.
Pecknold enters the weekend with 398 career wins - two shy of becoming the 33rd coach in NCAA ice hockey history to reach 400 career wins. He would also be the sixth active Division I coach to reach the milestone. Pecknold's next win would tie him with late University of Maine head coach Shawn Walsh, who accumulated 399 career wins and two national championships in 1993 and 1999.
Pecknold currently ranks sixth in career wins among active NCAA Division I head coaches and has posted 14 20-win campaigns in his career, while never hosting a losing record. A three-time Spencer Penrose National Coach of the Year finalist, Pecknold has guided Quinnipiac to back-to-back NCAA tournaments, with an appearance in the 2013 NCAA National Championship game after the Bobcats were ranked No. 1 nationally for much of the season.
Quinnipiac will travel to the North Country to take on Clarkson on Friday, Nov. 21 and St. Lawrence on Saturday, Nov. 22. The Bobcats enter the weekend with an overall record of 7-2-1 including a 4-0-0 record in ECAC Hockey.
