HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac women's volleyball team lost to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foe Canisius, 3-0. The Bobcats will look to rebound from the loss tomorrow as they play Niagara at home for Senior Day at 1 p.m.
Quinnipiac received another fine performance from sophomore Allison Leigh (Palmer, Alaska) as she led the team in both kills and blocks against the Golden Griffins. Leigh posted her third double-digit kill performance, posting 11 to go with five blocks. For the season, Leigh has 172 kills and leads the team with 118 blocks as well as a 1.23 blocks per set average.
In her second-to-last home game of her collegiate career, senior Tanner Celestin (Norco, Calif.) finished second on the team with six kills and blocks with three. Katie Urycki (Chesterton, Ind.) matched Celestin's kill tally, while also registering five digs on defense for Quinnipiac.
The Bobcats' setters played a great supporting role for the team's offense against Canisius. Starting at setter for the first time this season sophomore Cody Michaels (Versailles, Ky.) was a key contributor with a season-high 12 assists while also playing a stout on defense as she finished with five digs. Freshman Sierra Dawson (Larkspur, Calif.) added 17 assists against Canisius to bring her season total to 665. Dawson added five digs, two kills, and a service ace in the match.
The game against Canisius also marked a personal best for Quinnipiac libero freshman Nicole Milillo (Lynbrook, N.Y.). With 15 digs against the Golden Griffins, Milillo had her best defensive performance of her young Bobcats' career. Before Canisius, Milillo's personal best for digs was against Iona on Sept. 21 when she had 12 in that match.
The Quinnipiac Bobcats will be back in action tomorrow afternoon against the Niagara Purple Eagles at 1 p.m. For Brittanie Robinson, Tanner Celestin, and Tierra Allen, tomorrow's match will be a celebration of their four years here at Quinnipiac as they are honored on Senior Day. The game will have a pregame ceremony at 1 p.m. with the match following shortly after.
