Hamden, Conn. – Despite a great effort, the Quinnipiac Bobcats comeback fell short today against the Niagara Purple Eagles as the Bobcats dropped their season finale by the score of 3-1. Despite the great comeback by Quinnipiac, they ultimately fell short dropping the fourth and final set 25-19.
Today's game celebrated Quinnipiac's three seniors on the annual Senior Day game. Before the game, the Bobcats honored their three seniors: Brittanie Robinson, Tanner Celestin, and Tierra Allen for their great careers in the volleyball program. The pregame ceremonies honored not only the seniors and their families from Quinnipiac, but also paid tribute to Niagara's three seniors before the game.
In the final home game of her career Tanner Celestin (Norco, Calif.) finished on a high note leading the Bobcats with 16 kills in the match. The 16 kills is a career-high for Celestin who breaks her previous record of 15 which she set in the first match of this season in the 3-2 win over Lafayette. Over her four seasons Celestin has accumulated 476 career kills in a Bobcats uniform.
Sophomore Cody Michaels (Versailles, Ky.) had a big game anchoring the Bobcats defense with 13 digs. Michaels led the team this season with 347 digs and now has surpassed Crista Valentino for fifth most digs in a regular season for Quinnipiac.
It was a standout performance for the freshman class in the Quinnipiac volleyball program. Sierra Dawson (Larkspur, Calif.) shined with a 32 assist performance against Niagara as she finishes the season with 697 assists. Dawson now ranks ninth all-time for most assists in a single season and is 36 assists away from the eighth position on the list.
Freshman Cheyenne Orsi continued her great season with 12 kills and a .611 hitting percentage against Niagara. Not only did Orsi finish second on the team in kills, but led the Bobcats in hitting percentage and blocks with seven in the game. Orsi's twelve kills is a career high and finished her first regular season with 119 kills and 67 blocks.
Freshman Nicole Milillo (Lynbrook, N.Y.) also finished the season on a high note with a great defensive weekend combining for 28 digs including 13 against Niagara. With a service ace in the match, she now leads the team with 33 service aces in 2014.
