
Nicole Connery Scores Twice To Lead No. 5 Quinnipiac Women's Ice Hockey To 6-1 Win Against RPI

HAMDEN, Conn. - Nicole Connery (Newmarket, Ontario) scored twice to lead the No. 5 Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team to a 6-1 ECAC Hockey win against Renssealer Polytechnic Institutre at High Point Solutions Arena in Hamden, Conn. With the win, Quinnipiac's unbeaten streak goes to nine games at 8-0-1 including a 3-0-0 mark in league play. RPI drops to 1-9-2 overall and 0-3-0 in ECAC Hockey.
Erica Uden Johansson (Sundsvall, Sweden) had a goal and two assists while Nicole Kosta (Mississauga, Ontario) scored once and assisted on another. Shiann Darkangelo (Brighton, Michigan) and Taryn Baumgardt (Innisfail, Alberta) also scored for Quinnipiac. T.T. Cianfarano (Oswego, New York) had two assists while Cydney Roesler (Stittslville, Ontario) had an assist on on Connery's second goal.Freshman Alicia Barry (Hanson, Massachusetts) picked up her first career point with an assist on Uden-Johansson's goal.
Chelsea Laden (Lakeville, Minnesota) improved to 8-0-0 on the year and came within three-minutes-and-forty-five seconds of her fifth shutout of the season. RPI broke through with its lone goal of the contest with just under four minutes to play. The Engineers' goal was the first goal allowed by Laden in four games at High Point Solutions Arena this season.
Kosta broke a scoreless tie just under eight minutes into the game with her first goal of the season. It was also her 78th career point, moving her past former Bobcat captain Regan Boulton '11 for the second most points scored in Quinnipiac history.
Both teams played back-and-forth over the remaining of the first period, and most of the second. Uden Johansson scored her second goal of the year, and the 34th of her career to put Quinnipiac on top, 2-0, with 11 minutes to play.
Late in the second period, Quinnipiac went on the power play when RPI's Jenn Godin was called for hooking. The Bobcats moved the puck around the Engineers' zone with Uden Johansson effortlessly zipping the puck across the ice to Kosta on the opposite boards. Kosta then sent a pass to Roesler at the point before Roesler gave it back. Kosta fed Uden Johansson along the boards before she looked off a defender and fed Darkangelo in the slot. Darkangelo turned and saw daylight, leaving her with an open look between the Engineers' defenders on RPI's goal. Darkangelo wristed a shot that found the top left corner for her third goal of the year, and 49th of her career, to give Quinnipiac a 3-0 lead.
Early in the third period, Connery gave the Bobcats a 4-0 lead with her fifth goal of the season. Connery was set-up on the play by the Bobcats' leading scorer, freshman Cianfarano ,who picked up her fifth assist of the year, and 12th point. The duo hooked up again moments later, giving Connery her sixth goal of the season and Cianfarano her sixth assist. Connery and Cianfarano have now both tallied a point in six consecutive games. Baumgardt's first goal of the year, and second of her career, came in the closing minutes of the game.
Quinnipiac is back in action on Saturday, Nov. 15 when it hosts Union for an ECAC Hockey match-up at High Point Solutions Arena at the TD Bank Sports Center at 4 p.m.
