HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac University men's tennis head coach Mike Quitko has announced that former student-athlete Fahoum Fahoum will reunite with the men's tennis program for the 2013-14 season as an undergraduate student assistant coach. Fahoum joined the Bobcats roster for his final year of eligibility in 2012-13.
"Whenever I have a chance to bring on a former student-athlete to our coaching staff, I jump at the opportunity," said Quitko, who has 506 career wins to his name. "Fahoum was a tremendous player for us last year and has incredible knowledge of the game. He knows each of our players extremely well and can relate to them on a personal level, which makes it easier to communicate. He's going to be a great addition to the program."
Fahoum came to Quinnipiac from Old Dominion University, and was fantastic in the No. 2 slot last year. He won 12 matches at singles and 11 at doubles to give him a total of 23 wins on the season. Fahoum just crossed the 20-win plateau when he paired with fellow classmate Garrett Lane for an 8-6 win against Sacred Heart at No. 1 doubles. Fahoum has 71 career wins at the collegiate level – earning 34 wins at singles and 37 wins at doubles.
Prior to joining the Bobcats in 2012-13, Fahoum enjoyed a stellar three-year stint at Old Dominion. He compiled an overall record of 48-48, which included 22 wins at singles and 26 at doubles. Fahoum collected 10 wins at singles in each of his first two seasons, floating between the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 positions.
Fahoum, who hails from Haifa, Israel, comes from a family of tennis. Fahoum's sister, Nadine, attended Duke University and played No. 1 for the Blue Devils' women's tennis team.
Fahoum is on pace to graduate this May with a degree in public relations with a minor in business at Quinnipiac. He currently resides in Hamden.
Fahoum and the Bobcats are back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 18 with a non-conference match against a familiar foe. Quinnipiac welcomes St. Francis (N.Y.) to Hamden for a showdown at the QU Outdoor Tennis Courts on Mount Carmel Campus.
