BRONX, N.Y. – Racing against one of the premier cross country programs in the nation, the Quinnipiac men's cross country team managed to score some impressive individual results on their way to a 7th place finish at the MAAC Championship on Friday. Sophomore Brendan Copley (Colchester, Vt.) powered through the 8k course at Van Cortlandt Park to pick up a 10th place finish and All-MAAC honor to lead the way for the Bobcats. The No. 8 nationally-ranked Iona Gaels won their 23rd straight MAAC title as they finished with a mere 15 points, 58 more than the second place finisher Canisius.

As he has done all season, Copley was the fastest Bobcat on the afternoon as he posted his fourth Top 10 finish of the season with a time of 26:15.73. Coming into this season with just two Top 10 finishes to his name, Copley has doubled that through seven events thus far in 2013. Copley shaved off over 13 seconds from his time at the 2013 Iona Meet of Champions which took place on the same Van Cortlandt Park course. The two-time MAAC Runner of the Week was also the third fastest sophomore on the day as well as the fourth fastest runner not from Iona. After earning an All-NEC honor in last year's conference championship, Copley picks up his second straight All-Conference nod with the All-MAAC distinction.
Backing up Copley yet again was the unflappable junior Spencer Mannion (Brookfield, Conn.) as the two have now made it a perfect seven-for-seven in events this season finishing as the fastest two Bobcat runners. Mannion barely missed out on the All-MAAC team but still put together an impressive outing as he crossed the line in 18th place overall. Of all the Quinnipiac runners, Mannion improved the most from his finishing time at the Iona Meet of Champions earlier this season held at Van Cortlandt Park. After crossing the line in 27:17.54 earlier this year, Mannion put together a time of 26:44.06 for an improvement of over 33 seconds.
Another impressive result was had from sophomore Matt Mensher (Tolland, Conn.) who clocked in at 27:20.22 for a 33rd place finish out of 158 competitors. Having to separate himself from the pack following him, Mensher moved up a couple spots and cut off nearly 20 seconds from his Iona Meet of Champions time earlier this season. Mensher has now finished third on the team, three spots higher than his sixth place finish among Bobcat runners at the 2012 NEC Championship meet.

Rounding out the scorers for Quinnipiac on the afternoon was freshman Dylan Fearon (Tenafly, N.J.) and senior Jacob Cetera (Chicago, Ill.). Racing in his first conference meet, Fearon crossed the line in 76th place overall with a time of 28:11.40. A longtime fixture in the program, Cetera lifted the Bobcats one more time with a time of 28:23 to land him in 87th place overall.
The Bobcats will have two weeks of rest before closing out their season at the NCAA Regional event back in the Bronx from Van Cortland Park on Friday, November 15 at 11:45 am.
