HAMDEN, Conn. - Quinnipiac University volleyball junior Taylor
Payne (Warwick, N.Y.) and former Bobcat Amanda Armstrong (Waukesha,
Wis.) were named to the Iroquois Empire High Performance coaching
staff this past summer. Pre-tournament training took
place at the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, N.Y.
Payne coached the Youth National Team at the training camp, while
Armstrong coached the Select team at the camp and also coached the
team at the USA Volleyball High Performance Championships in
Tucson, Ariz.
"I am so thankful that we got to spend five days in the Olympic
Training Facility,” said Payne. “Getting the
'Olympic Treatment' helped the athletes learn what to
eat, how to act, and how to train in order to reach their full
potential. I think the most inspiring of all the things that
happened at the Olympic Training Center was getting the idea across
to these athletes that being an Olympian isn't a career (like a
paying job), it's a passion. I think it made a lot of them
look within themselves and find that same passion for
volleyball.”
The Iroquois Empire High Performance program is a part of the USA
Volleyball Olympic Pipeline for athlete development.
“I am thrilled that both Amanda and Taylor had the
opportunity to spend time in Lake Placid and work with other
top-notch coaches in a program that I started seven years ago as
Juniors Director for that Region,” commented Quinnipiac Head
Coach Robin Sparks. “Taylor trained and competed in the
program in the past. To see her returning to give back to the
young athletes who aspire to follow in her footsteps is exactly
what I think our athletes should be doing every day.”
