
Softball Falls Short To Hartford, 1-0

HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac University softball team lost to
Hartford, 1-0, in a non-conference match-up on Wednesday, April 20
at the Quinnipiac Softball Field. With the loss, the Bobcats fall
to 24-19 on the year, while the Hawks improve to 6-26 as they pick
up their first road win of the season.
Quinnipiac was led by junior pitcher Mina Duffy (Piedmont,
Calif.), who struck out nine batters in her second complete game of
the year. Duffy only allowed three hits in the contest, while
Hartford pitcher Siera Sheehan let up six hits.
The Bobcats' sophomore outfielder Lauren Salgado (Covina, Calif.)
contributed a team-high two hits against the Hawks, while four
Bobcats each had one hit in the game.
Hartford took its 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning when
first baseman Melanie Maxwell hit a home run to left center on a
full count.
Quinnipiac, currently in second place in the Northeast Conference
standings at 8-4, returns to action when it plays in a conference
doubleheader at Sacred Heart on Friday, April 22 starting at 1:00
p.m. The Bobcats will then host NEC opponent Fairleigh Dickinson in
a pair of games on Saturday, April 23 beginning at Noon. Quinnipiac
will recognize the three seniors on the softball team prior to the
start of Saturday's twinbill.
