
Softball Falls To Harvard In Two-Game Series

HAMDEN,
Conn. - The Quinnipiac University softball team (13-13) lost to
Harvard (11-9) in its first home games of the 2011 season on
Saturday, March 26. The Bobcats were shutout, 8-0, in the first
game, and lost 7-4, in game two.
In Quinnipiac's first match-up against the Crimson, the game
remained scoreless until the fourth inning when Harvard's Stephanie
Regan and Whitney Shaw each scored a run. Harvard added six runs in
the top of the seventh to close the game at 8-0. Five of the
Crimson's six runs in the seventh, were scored off of Jane
Alexander and Regan homeruns, while its other run was scored on a
fielder's choice.
Quinnipiac's Jacqueline
Ristow (Seal Beach, Calif.) contributed the Bobcats' only hit
of the game, while Emily
O'Keefe (Southington, Conn.) took her fifth loss of the
evening, as she pitched four innings against the Crimson. Mina
Duffy (Piedmont, Calif.) came in relief in the fifth inning and
struck out eight batters across three innings.
In the second game of the day, Harvard took a 1-0 lead in the top
of the third as Alexander scored an unearned run. The Crimson added
five runs off six hits in the top of the fifth, before adding one
run in the sixth inning, which increased their lead by seven runs,
7-0.
Quinnipiac responded with four runs in the bottom of the sixth,
narrowing the gap by three runs, 7-4. The Bobcats' third baseman Bridget
Figmic (Stratford, Conn.) hit a double to drive in the team's
first two runs of the day as Katie
Donohue (Walpole, Mass.) and Alex
Alba (Sylmar, Calif.) each crossed home plate. Immediately
after, Quinnipiac's catcher Ashley
Heiberger (Sioux Falls, S.D.) singled through the left side,
driving in Jordan
Paolucci (Lake Mary, Fla.) for run number three. Figmic went on
to score the Bobcats' final run on a wild pitch.
Figmic led Quinnipiac as she went 2-3 with a run scored and two RBI
in the Bobcats second contest of the doubleheader. Bobcats' junior

Schwartzburg (Mission Viejo, Calif.) started and pitched 4.2
innings, striking out nine batters, while freshman Katie
Alfiere (Beacon Falls, Conn.) entered the game in the fifth and
(Beacon Falls, Conn.) pitched for the remainder of the game.
The Bobcats return to action on Sunday, March 27 when it hosts
Manhattan College in a doubleheader, scheduled to begin at noon at
the Quinnipiac Softball Field in Hamden, Conn.
