
Men's Ice Hockey Has Seventeen Players Named To 2008-09 ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team

HAMDEN, Conn. The Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey team placed 17 student-athletes on the 2008-09 ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team. Student-athletes eligible for the All-Academic team must earn a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.00, on a 4.00 scale, or have a GPA over 3.00 over the past three semesters.
"I'm very
proud of our student-athletes for their academic accomplishments,"
head coach Rand Pecknold said. "Our student-athletes work
incredibly hard in the classroom and I'm very pleased to have so
many included on the ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team for the third
straight year."
Of
the 17 Bobcat players named to the team, nine have received the
honor before. Three-time
recipients include assistant captains Matt Sorteberg (Anoka,
Minn.), with a 3.44 grade-point average, Jean-Marc Beaudoin (St.
Paul, Alberta) at 3.41, Andrew Meyers (St. Louis, Mo.) at 3.13 and
Mark Nelson (Prince George, British Columbia) at 3.09. Senior Bud
Fisher (Peterborough, Ontario.),who turned in a 3.10 GPA, and
junior Sami Liimatainen (Riverside, Ill.), with a 3.30, were also
named to the all-academic team for the third consecutive
year.
Sophomores
Zach Hansen (White Bear Lake, Minn.) at 3.13, Patrick McGann
(Evergreen Park, Ill.) at 3.33 and Jake Bauer (Dayton, Minn.) at
3.37, were named to the team for the second consecutive year.
First-time recipients include sophomores Brett Dickinson (Furlong,
Pa.) at 3.02 and Sean Coughlin (Winthrop, Mass.) at 3.26. Freshmen
honorees turned in the four highest GPA's on the team as Yuri
Bouharevich (Montreal, Quebec) had a team-high 3.75, Mike Glaicar
(Kamloops, British Columbia)finished at 3.70, David Arduin
(Halfmoon Bay, British Columbia) turned in a 3.68 and Kevin Bui
(Edmonton, Alberta) had a 3.50. Classmates Mile Winter (Ambler,
Pa.) turned in a 3.37 while Dan Clarke (Belleville, Ontario)
finished the year with a 3.06.
