Sarah Fraser is in her ninth year as deputy director of athletics and senior woman administrator with the Bobcats. In her role, she contributes to the overall leadership and strategic direction of an athletic department that has experienced sustained competitive success, academic achievement, and growth across its 21 varsity programs.
Nationally, Fraser is a respected leader in collegiate and amateur athletics. She is an elected member of the USA Hockey Congress, a volunteer role with the national governing body that also includes service on the International Council, the Player Development Committee, the Legal Council and the Youth Council. In addition, Fraser chairs the Playing Rules Committee for the organization and is a past chair of the Women’s National Team Advisory Committee and a former member of the Executive Committee. She has served as a Tournament Director for multiple USA Hockey National Championship events, helping to elevate the profile and execution of national-level competition. Closer to home, Fraser serves as Director of Player Development for the New England District of USA Hockey and oversees Player Development for the Connecticut Hockey Conference. In 2024, she was appointed to the Friendship Four Advisory Board by the Belfast Giants, supporting the only NCAA Division I ice hockey tournaments held outside North America.
Her NCAA service includes chairing the Women’s Ice Hockey Committee, leading the Olympic Sports Liaison Committee, and serving on the Men’s and Women’s Ice Hockey Rules Committee and the Division I 2-4 Waiver Committee. Fraser was also a facilitator for the NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum, supporting leadership growth among student-athletes nationwide.
Fraser arrived at Quinnipiac after more than a decade at Brown University, where she served as senior associate athletic director for compliance. As a member of the senior staff, she led NCAA compliance for 38 varsity sports and 950 student-athletes in addition to serving as sport administrator for men’s and women’s ice hockey, men’s soccer, baseball, women’s lacrosse, and fencing. Her campus involvement included service on several university committees contributing to campus-wide dialogue and professional development initiatives. Prior to Brown, she was assistant commissioner for women’s hockey with ECAC Hockey, managing league operations, championships, and media relations and was the first person to hold that dedicated role in the women’s league.
Fraser graduated from Dartmouth College, where she was an All-American in ice hockey and also competed in track and field. She was a member of the 1999 U.S. National Team that won silver at the IIHF World Championship and was a finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Award. She earned her master’s degree in communication studies from the University of Rhode Island, and is a graduate of the NCAA Pathway Program, Women Leaders in College Sports Executive Institute, and the NCAA/NACWAA Institute for Administrative Advancement.
Her honors include the 2022 USA Hockey President’s Award, the Brown Pride Award, and the Brown University Campus Life Excellence Award. Fraser also volunteers with Yale Youth Hockey, holds a Level 4 USA Hockey Coaching Certification, and is SafeSport Certified. She and her husband Drew have two sons, Ryan and Shane.
