Greg Amodio just wrapped up his 10th year as the Director of Athletics at Quinnipiac University in 2024-25. He officially began his duties at QU on July 20, 2015.
Amodio has guided Quinnipiac Athletics to extraordinary athletic, academic, and philanthropic success over the last decade. His leadership has resulted in dozens of championships, record-breaking fundraising, and a transformative student-athlete experience.
During his time in Hamden, Amodio has directed all aspects of the Quinnipiac University athletic department including: overall management, strategic planning, budgeting, development, external relations and human resources.
The Bobcats have captured 33 regular season titles and 29 conference tournament championships under Amodio’s leadership. 47 different programs have reached the NCAA Tournament over the last 10 years, highlighted by national championships in Women’s Rugby (2015, 2016, 2017) and Men’s Ice Hockey (2023). Quinnipiac also notably reached the Women’s Basketball Sweet Sixteen in 2017, and has captured numerous individual national championships in acrobatics & tumbling throughout the years.
The Bobcats captured the 2022-23 MAAC Commissioner’s Cup following one of the most successful seasons in conference history, capturing six total conference championships (women’s cross country, women’s soccer, men’s soccer, women’s volleyball, women’s golf, women’s tennis) during the benchmark campaign. Most recently in 2023-24, the Quinnipiac Men’s Basketball team set a new program record for wins (24) and won its first-ever MAAC regular season championship.
Quinnipiac student-athletes have experienced consistent success in the classroom. Athletic programs have posted a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of better than 3.30 each year under Amodio. The Bobcats have combined for a 3.50 or better GPA for six consecutive semesters – dating back to the fall of 2021 – and 1,204 student-athletes have made the Dean’s list over just the last three years.
Amodio has also helped pioneer unprecedented philanthropic success, most notably with the implementation of the Bobcat Challenge. The 2023 Bobcat Challenge raised a school-record $945,000 to help ensure that QU programs continue to compete at the highest level – both academically and athletically.
During his tenure, Amodio has developed many new senior leadership and support staff positions to help strengthen the department’s operations, programming and overall support for coaches and athletes. He developed new senior leadership positions to include the Deputy Director of Athletics and Senior Associate Athletic Director for Student Development, and coordinated new full-time positions in finance, compliance, academic services, strength & conditioning, equipment services, athletic communications, and marketing.
Other projects under Amodio’s leadership include:
- Coordinated the completion and integration of a new 30-million-dollar field hockey, lacrosse and soccer turf complex located on the Mount Caramel Campus.
- Finalized a strategic move from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference to the Big East Conference for the field hockey program.
- Managed the implementation of a million-dollar television production facility located at M&T Bank Arena to broadcast all ice hockey and basketball home games on ESPN platforms.
- Partnered with Integrated Marketing & Communications and SME Branding to engage in a comprehensive review and redesign of the Quinnipiac athletic marks.
- Negotiated a department-wide apparel partnership with Adidas, leading to greater brand consistency and cost containment for athletic programs.
- Co-directed numerous Title IX/Consent Decree planning sessions and initiatives with a focus on full gender equity compliance.
- Secured the opportunity to host the 2019 NCAA Women’s Frozen Four at M&T Bank Arena located on the York Hill Campus.
Amodio arrived at Quinnipiac with a record of impressive accomplishments during his tenure at Duquesne, which began in 2005. Among them are: conducting successful national searches for new men’s and women’s basketball coaches; developing a strategic partnership with the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh to host a select number men’s basketball games each season; and co-directing the $6 million renovation of Rooney Field, the on-campus home of the Duquesne football, soccer and lacrosse programs.
Before joining Duquesne, Amodio was associate director for athletics at Xavier from 1998 to 2005. While at Xavier, Amodio directed athletic marketing and promotions initiatives, solicited corporate partners for athletic sponsorships to include television and radio advertising, in-arena signage, retail promotions, game day partnerships, corporate hospitality and season tickets. From 2001-05, Xavier athletics generated more than $5.5 million in corporate partner revenue.
Amodio holds a master’s degree in education from Queens College, City University of New York, and a bachelor’s degree in physical education and health from Davis and Elkins College. He and his wife, Kerry, have two children, Jake and Alexandra.
