Ed Maturo’s career in hockey has spanned an entire lifetime, and the globe. “Foxy”, as he is affectionately known in the college hockey world, has been a fixture on the ice and on the bench for the last 40 years.
Upon the completion of his scholastic career at Hamden High School, serving as a team captain in 1964, Maturo went on to a four-year collegiate career at American International College. He also served as the team’s captain with the Yellow Jackets before graduating with a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1969.
In 1977, Maturo discovered a job posting at Yale University’s personnel office for an athletic equipment manager, a position he held for 33 years before his retirement in 2009 that saw him serve all of the Bulldogs’ 35 athletic programs.
In addition to his 33 years of service at Yale, Maturo also served as the equipment manager for the 1994 Team USA Men’s Ice Hockey team that competed in the Lillehammer Olympics and again in 2006 with the women’s program in Turin, Italy.
He joined Quinnipiac’s staff in 2010 as an equipment manager for the university’s nationally-ranked men’s ice hockey program. In his time with the Bobcats, Quinnipiac has won three ECAC Hockey Regular Season Championships, an ECAC Hockey Tournament Championship and advanced to four NCAA Tournament appearances including two NCAA National Championship Games in 2013 and 2016.
Maturo resides in his hometown of Hamden, Connecticut with his wife, Mary Jane. The couple have two daughters, Tami and Kristen, who both work at Quinnipiac. Tami is an associate athletic director while Kristin works in health and wellness. His granddaughter, Savanna, was a stand-out on the Quinnipiac field hockey, earning All-BIG EAST honors and finishing her career as one of the program’s all-time leading scorers.
