Bobcats Split First Two Games of Season
Peoria, Ill. – The Quinnipiac women's volleyball program split a pair of games to open up the 2025 campaign on Friday at the CEFCU Invitational.
The Bobcats swept Western Illinois (3-0) in the second contest of the day after dropping the first contest vs. UT Arlington (3-1).
Preseason MAAC Player of the Year Elena Giacomini recorded 27 kills over the first two matches of the season, while Vittoria Tonelli added an impressive total of 25 kills during her first two outings of collegiate action.
First-year Asia Belli helped clinch the Quinnipiac victory against Western Illinois, recording a pair of kills to finish off the third and decisive set.

- Elena Giacomini and first-year Vittoria Tonelli each recorded 12 kills to lead the way for the Bobcats during the first contest of the season.
- Yagmur Gunes chipped in with nine kills of her own. She also led Quinnipiac with 17 digs.
- Damla Gunes finished with 39 assists to lead the way for QU.
- Carola Negron Diaz chipped in with 15 digs.
- The Bobcats took the third set of the match, 25-12. Vittoria Tonelli had six kills in the third set, alone.
Game 2: Quinnipiac 3, Western Illinois 0
- The Bobcats took the first set 25-23, storming back to score the final four points to take a 1-0 lead. A service ace finished off the first point for QU.
- QU then took the second set in dramatic fashion once again, as Elena Giacimini picked up a pair of kills to finish off the set and make it 2-0 Bobcats.
- The third and final set was once again decided by just two points (26-24 QU), as first-year Asia Belli clinched the victory with a pair of kills.
- Elena Giacomini paced Quinnipiac with 15 kills, Yagmur Gunes added 14, and Vittoria Tonelli chipped in with 13 kills during the second game of the day.
- Damla Gunes once again led QU in assists (24).
- Klara Olszewska added 15 kills and Carola Negron Diaz padded the box score with 12 kills.
- Yagmur Gunes and Elena Giacimini each recorded 13 digs.
