HAMDEN, Conn. — The No. 5 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey program officially begins the defense of its Cleary Cup title beginning this weekend as ECAC play commences with a pair of local battles.
The Bobcats will head down Whitney Ave., to take on Yale on Friday night before trekking to Providence for a Saturday night showdown.
WYTTER WYTTER, CHICKEN DINNER
- Ethan Wyttenbach was named the ECAC's Rookie of the Month for October after posting eight points in eight games, leading the Bobcats to a 5-2-1 record and the No. 5 ranking in the country.
- He finished his inaugural month of college hockey with four goals, two being power play goals, and two assists. He earned his first collegiate point in the Bobcats' 4-3 win over Boston College that sparked a six-game points streak to begin his collegiate career, the only first-year in the country to amass that streak.
FIRST YEAR PHENOMS
- Wyttenbach and first year Markus Vidicek are off to hot starts to the 2025-26 campaign, combining for 19 points in the Bobcats' first nine games of the season. This is good for third amongst first-year teammates in teh country.
- Penn State's Gavin McKenna joins teammate Jackson Smith to top the list with 21 points, while Miami (OH) teammates Kocha Delic and Ilia Morozov have totaled 20 points in the first four weeks of the year.
TOP 5 IN THE NATION
- The Bobcats are back in the Top 5 of the national polls, cracking the mark in both the USCHO and USA Hockey rankings, the organizations both announced on Monday.
- It is the first time since Feb. 5, 2024 that the Bobcats are Top 5 in the polls, climbing as high as sixth this season and entering the season seventh a year ago but never ranking higher than that.
NO PLACE LIKE HOME
- Ready to begin a stretch where just four games are away from home ice between this week and Jan. 10, the Bobcats are going to be at a familiar spot at M&T Bank Arena, and one they've been very successful in over the last four seasons.
- The 45 wins at The Bank are tied for the third-most in the country since the 2022-23 season, while the eight losses are the fewest in the country. They are the only team with single-digit losses in home games over the last three-plus seasons.
- They are averaging 4.4 goals per game during that span, which puts them second in the country in that category, while their 1.8 goals-against per contest are tops in the country, just ahead of fellow ECAC member Cornell.
MOTO MOTO
- After a 3-goal first period for Maine on Friday night, junior netminder Matej Marinov locked in en route to his MAC Goaltending ECAC Goalie of the Week honor.
- He stopped 29 of his final 30 shots against, including an 18-save shutout on Saturday to ensure an unbeaten weekend for the Bobcats. He also made a pair of standout stops in the shootout on Friday night, ending the comeback on a high that saw the Bobcats erase a 4-1 deficit.
- He followed that up with a 26-save performance on Tuesday night at Holy Cross, the most by a Bobcat netminder this season.
