
Marcellus Continues Goal Streak but No. 6 Bobcats Fall at Maine

ORONO, ME — The Quinnipiac men's ice hockey program suffered its first loss of the 2026-27 campaign on Saturday night, dropping a 5-3 decision to the Maine Black Bears and splitting the weekend at Alfond Arena.
The Bobcats had a 3-2 advantage at the midway point of the second but the hosts scored three in a row, including an empty-net tally, to secure the back end of the two-game weekend.
Mason Marcellus and Ethan Wyttenbach continued their stellar weekends, as Marcellus scored his fourth goal in as many games to begin the campaign and Wyttenbach posted yet another multi-point night.
Jan Golicic's first collegiate goal came at the 16:16 mark of the first to tie the game and it was Marcellus' tally just 64 seconds into the second that gave the Bobcats the lead but they would be unable to find the net the rest of the way.

Quinnipiac heads back on the road Friday night for a matchup with Penn State. Kickoff is slated for 7 pm., Eastern in State College, Pa.

- Marcellus is one of two players in the country with goals in each of his first four games of the 2026-27 campaign, joining Michigan's Jayden Perron.
- The Bobcats' 21 goals are the second-most in the country after four games.
- Quinnipiac remains the nation's best faceoff team after four games, winning 63.1 percent of draws (152-89).
- Marcellus joins Wyttenbach as the only two players in ECAC Hockey with points in each of the first four games of the season.
