
Gunes Sisters Take Home Weekly Awards

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac women's volleyball team took home two weekly awards, as announced by the league office on Tuesday, October 21st. Yagmur Gunes was named the Jersey Mike's MAAC Volleyball Co-Player of the Week, and Damla Gunes earned Setter of the Week honors.
Yagmur Gunes had a stellar week for the Bobcats, recording 33 kills in Quinnipiac's 2-0 weekend. Gunes kicked off the weekend with 25 kills, eleven digs, and five service aces as she led the Bobcats to a four-set win over the Siena Saints. The senior from Bursa, Turkey, registered her eleventh double-double of the season and second in as many matches in the win over Siena. Gunes followed up that performance with an eight-kill, nine-dig performance on Saturday as the Bobcats swept the Red Foxes on the road, helping the Bobcats improve to 7-2 in MAAC play.
Damla Gunes helped the Bobcats to a 2-0 week as they improved to 10-11 overall. Gunes recorded a total of 80 assists, 48 against Siena and 32 against Marist, over the weekend to help lead the Bobcats to an undefeated weekend. Gunes finished her weekend with twelve total digs and three total kills, while averaging 11.43 assists per weekend. The two-time Setter of the Year continues to prove that she has her eyes set on her third straight, as she has registered 342 assists throughout MAAC play.
The Bobcats return home for the first time since the first weekend of October as they host the Fairfield Stags (Oct. 24) and the Sacred Heart Pioneers (Oct. 25) this weekend at Burt Kahn.
