HAMDEN, Connecticut – Jackie Grisdale and Grace LaBarge have been named captains for the 2024-25 campaign as announced by head coach Tricia Fabbri on Tuesday, June 11th.
"We are thrilled to have these two young women be the bridge between coaches and players for this season," said head coach Tricia Fabbri. "Named captain for her second time in as many seasons, (Jackie) honed her leadership skills off the court while enduring a season-ending injury. I witnessed 1st hand her ability to lead in new ways." While Grisdale was sidelined, "Grace stepped into the void when last year's captain went down and provided important leadership on a young team. That experience and her commitment to the program make her a great fit for captaincy."
Quinnipiac women's basketball's announcement places Grisdale into an official leadership title for the second straight season. Grisdale became the first singular captain in Quinnipiac's Div. I history and first under Fabbri during her 29 years at the helm of the program last season.
"I am grateful to have the continued trust of my coaches and teammates to lead our team towards our goal of winning a MAAC championship in March. We know there is a lot of work to be done, but there is no one else I'd rather be putting in the effort with daily," Grisdale said. "I am proud of the strong foundation we were able to establish during the previous season, and I am incredibly excited to return to the court and build upon the lessons and experiences we've gained. I'm also looking forward to sharing the responsibility with such a great teammate, Grace LaBarge, it will only benefit our team to have another influential voice and leader on and off the court."
Grace LaBarge joins Grisdale as co-captain for the 2024-25 season, the first leadership group since the 2017-18 season, when the Bobcats named four captains.
"It is an incredible honor to be named a captain on such a talented and connected team. I'm extremely excited about what's to come and I look forward to stepping into my new role," LaBarge said.
Just a season ago, Grisdale started the first eight games for the Bobcats before her season came to an end. Before she was shut down, Grisdale was averaging 14.1 points on 46% shooting from the field and 45.9% from three-point range, which all led the team. Although Grisdale was held off the court, she made sure her voice was heard from the sidelines.
As a junior last season, Grace LaBarge played in all 31 games for the Bobcats while making 19 starts. LaBarge was fifth on the team in scoring (8.5 ppg), third in rebounding (4.8 rpg), and second with 15 blocks. LaBarge scored a career-high 20 points on the road at Princeton last season, while shooting a perfect 6-for-6 from the field, 3-for-3 from behind the arc, and 5-for-5 from the charity stripe. In the MAAC opener, Grace LaBarge knocked down the game-winning three as time expired on the road at Rider.
