POMONA, N.Y. – The Quinnipiac baseball team fell to the Manhattan Jaspers in the opening game of the series, 6-3, on Friday afternoon.

With the loss, the Bobcats will improve to 15-22 overall and 6-7 in MAAC play, while the Jaspers will improve to 13-26 overall and 6-10 in conference play with the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After a scoreless opening inning, the Jaspers cracked the scoreboard first as a two-run double down the left field line gave them a 2-0 lead in the second inning.

Keegan O'Connor got the Bobcats on the board in the top of the fourth with a solo home run to right center field. Manhattan would respond in the bottom half of the inning as they brought in three runs. An RBI single got their scoring going in the inning before blasting a two-run homer to right center to make it a 5-1 game.

In the seventh inning, the Bobcats threatened to make a comeback. Dominick Proctor scored CJ Willis with a single to center field to bring the Bobcats within three. With Matt DeRosa on third, Kyle Garbowski flew out to left field to bring home DeRosa and cut it to a two-run game.

Manhattan would get out of the inning and score on a sacrifice fly to make it a 6-3 game and seal the victory in the opening game of the series.

NEWS AND NOTES

Four different Bobcats recorded hits in the loss.
Keegan O'Connor led the offense, going 1-for-3 with a solo home run.
Dominick Proctor went 1-for-4 with an RBI single.
Matt DeRosa picked up one hit in two at-bats with a run scored and two walks.
Jared Zimbardo recorded a hit, which extends his on-base streak to 36 games.
Sam Favieri went 4.2 innings in relief and struck out three, while allowing just one run on two hits.

The Bobcats will be back tomorrow, Saturday, April 27^th, to take on the Manhattan Jaspers in the middle game of the three-game set. First pitch from SUNY Westchester Community College is set for 1 PM.
