Proctor Walks It Off, Bobcats Down Merrimack at Home

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac baseball team kicked off their home slate with a thrilling 5-4 win over the Merrimack Warriors on a rainy Saturday afternoon.

The Bobcats will improve to 2-5 to start the 2024 season, while Merrimack will fall to 1-6 on the campaign.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The two teams were scoreless until Merrimack scored a run from an error by the Bobcats' defense. Quinnipiac bounced back in the bottom of the inning scoring two runs to take the lead. Sean Swenson got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Kyle Garbowski scored on fielder's choice.

Merrimack would take the three-two lead in the top of the ninth inning. The Warriors got one run off a double down the right field line and got another run to cross the plate on a sacrifice fly.

The Bobcats didn't go down quietly in the ninth as CJ Willis got on base to start the inning. Sean Swenson stepped up as the next batter and launched a moonshot to left field to tie the game at four.

A Braydon Seaburg walk put the winning run on base. On a pickoff attempt, the Merrimack pitcher threw it away and allowed Seaburg to advance to third with zero outs. Dominick Proctor stepped into the box and shot a single to right field to win the game, 5-4.
