2/24/2024 11:10:00 PM | Women's Indoor Track & Field
NEW YORK — First year jumper Shaelyn Murphy ended night one at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships with a bang, defeating Rider's Savanna Marcantonio in a jump-off to secure the Quinnipiac women's track and field program's first gold of the 2024 Indoor MAAC Championships, held at The Armory.
Murphy and Marcantonio matched jump for jump before stalling at the 1.71m height, resulting in a jump-off for the title. After four rounds of descending jumps were missed by both, the Meriden, Conn., native cleared at 1.63m to clinch the victory.
Three other medals went the Bobcats' way on Saturday night, as Sydney Lavelle jumped a season-best 5.60m in the long jump en route to a second-place finish.
Corinne Barney secured bronze in the 5k, while Olaitan Olagundoye also finished third in the high jump.
Quinnipiac secured 15 finals spots for Sunday's races, including four in the 200m and three in the 400m. As a team, they sit third with 43 points. They are a point behind Manhattan for second and 7.5 points back of Rider for top spot.
