Quinnipiac to play in Tempe, Ariz., with Notre Dame, Arizona State and Alaska Fairbanks
TEMPE, Ariz. — Arizona State University announced today, in conjunction with the Hockey Commissioners Association and College Hockey Inc., that it will serve as the host institution for the men's 2025 Ice Breaker Tournament.
Alaska, Notre Dame, and Quinnipiac will also compete in the event, scheduled for Oct. 10-11, 2025, at Mullett Arena in Tempe.

"The addition of Arizona State University men's hockey has been a tremendous success, and we hoped to one day have the Ice Breaker tournament in Tempe," said College Hockey Inc. Executive Director Sean Hogan. "Four of the top programs in the country competing in one of the best buildings in college hockey will be a great way to kick off the 2025-26 season," said College Hockey Inc. Executive Director Sean Hogan.
The Ice Breaker Tournament, which began in 1997, traditionally marks the beginning of the NCAA Division I men's hockey season. The event brings together four teams, typically from different conferences, and is administered by College Hockey Inc. on behalf of the Hockey Commissioners Association.
The Bobcats will play in their second Ice Breaker Tournament, participating also in the 2021 version held at the DCU Center in Worcester, Mass. They earned a tie against No. 6/8 Boston College and defeated Northeastern in their two games.
"We are very excited to participate again in the Ice Breaker Tournament at Arizona State to kick off the 2025-26 season this October," head coach Rand Pecknold said. "It is a great opportunity for our team to play in a tournament setting against tough competition right out of the gate."
Tickets for the 2025 Ice Breaker Tournament go on sale at the conclusion of the 2024-25 season. ASU season ticket holders will have first rights to their seats during the renewal period. Sales to the general public will be available summer of 2025. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.sundevils.com.
