
Bobcats Take 2 Event Wins, Place Second at MAAC Outdoor Championships

EMMITSBURG, Md. — Sophomore Rylie Smith earned her first individual MAAC Outdoor title on Sunday afternoon, taking first in the 400m to highlight one of two titles for the Bobcats on Day 2 of the 2023 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships on the campus of Mount St. Mary's.
The Bobcats finished with a total of 132 points over the 21 events, besting Mount St. Mary's for third by 6.5 points for the second spot in the league.
Smith ran one of her two ECAC cuts to win the event, clocking in at 55.27 to win by over a second. She also ran a 24.54 time in the 200m, good for second in the event.
Quinnipiac also took the 4x800 relay title, as Rachel St. Germain, Sophia Jones, Christina Gunsalus and Alessandra Zaffina combined to finish in 9:12.01 and take the crown.
Sydney Lavelle and Olaitan Olagundoye also added second-place finishes, with Lavelle clocking in at 1:02.26 in the 400m Hurdles and Olagundoye jumping a personal-best 1.67m in the high jump.

Select Bobcats will continue on to next weekend's New England Championships, held at Northeastern University on May 12 and 13.

STATS AND NOTES
- Smith's 24.54 in the 200m is a new personal-best and the fifth-fastest time in program history.
- Gunsalus took fourth in the 800m in a personal-best time of 2:12.67. She jumped up to eighth on the all-time list in that event.
- Lavelle finished the weekend with two personal bests, one on each day. She finished the 400m hurdles in 1:02.26, which is the fourth-fastest time in program history and the fastest run in the event since 2019 by a Bobcat.
- Emma Byrne also PRed in the 400m hurdles, clocking in at 1:04.50, good for fifth in program history.
- Olagundoye's 1.67m high jump is a new collegiate best and the highest mark by a Bobcat since 2019 in the event.
- Eileen Donovan debuted in the Discus Throw at the event, throwing it 23.29m to put herself seventh on the program's Top 10 mark.
