Zaffina Defends Steeplechase Title, 11 Bobcats Qualify for Finals After Day 1 at MAACs

EMMITSBURG, Md. — For the third season in a row, Alessandra Zaffina is the MAAC's Steeplechase Champion, after defeating teammate Rachel St. Germain by 4.5 seconds as the Bobcats finished 1-2 in the event.
The Bobcats as a whole exit the day in second place, sitting with 47 points. They are six ahead of Manhattan and eight on top of host Mount St. Mary's entering Sunday's finals action.
Quinnipiac had 11 qualifying performances from Saturday's prelims, including five inside the top three. Rylie Smith ran a qualifying-best time in the 400m and placed second in qualifying for the 200m to highlight the Bobcat preliminary runs.
BOBCAT QUALIFICATIONS
The action from Mount St. Mary's begins Sunday at 10 a.m., with the Women's Triple Jump and Women's Shot Put.
Track events begin with the 4x100 relay at 12:05 p.m.

BOBCAT QUALIFICATIONS
- Rylie Smith qualified for the 200m and 400m final. She ran a 25.05 in the 200m and 56.59 in the 400m.
- Izzie Anzaldo clocked in at 58.72, qualifying for the 400m final with the seventh-best time.
- Christina Gunsalus finished second in 800m qualifying, winning her heat with a 2:15.59 run.
- Three Bobcats qualified for the 1500m, with Liv DiStefano (4:46.07), Corinne Barney (4:47.07) and Cassidy Phillips (4:51.25) finishing inside the Top 12.
- Another three runners qualified in the 400m hurdles, with Sydney Lavelle (1:04.26), Emma Byrne (1:04.90) and Hayley Brookes (1:06.84) inside the Top eight.
