
Young Breaks 1000m School Record to Highlight John Terrier Classic

BOSTON — Graduate student Emily Young rewrote the record books on Saturday afternoon, breaking the school's 1000m mark at the John Terrier Classic, hosted by Boston University.
The Camillus, N.Y., native clocked in at 2:50.13, besting the previous record by over two seconds, held by Medinah Nabadduka.
The Bobcats as a team recorded seven, Top 10 finishes across track and field events, as well as accumulated six different performances that landed the squad on the Top 10 list.
Both Rylie Smith and Young tallied the best times in the MAAC for their respective events, as Smith clocked in at 56.22 in the 400m, while Young's time in the 1000m puts her best in the conference with the Championships under a month away.
Alessandra Zaffina ran the fastest time in the 3000m since 2006, finishing in 9:42.99. It is 0.10 seconds ahead of Emily Wolff's from Feb. 8, 2019.
NOTES
The Bobcats' championship season begins next weekend back in Beantown, when they run at New England Championships on Feb. 2 and 3. MAAC Championships are slated for Feb. 18 and 19 in New York.

- Nabadduka previously held the 1000m mark, running the event in 2:52.21 on March 4, 2017.
- Zaffina's 3000m performance is the fastest time run by a Bobcat since Jan. 27, 2006 when Kaitlyn Gwyther finished in 9:18.21.
- Smith's 400m performance is the fourth-fastest in program history and is a new personal best for the second time in the last three weeks.
- Rachel St. Germain finished the 5000m in 16:48.81, good for fourth on the program's all-time performance list.
- Camille Sweet jumped 10.90m in her first Triple Jump attempt, good for ninth on the all-time list.
- Smith, Sydney Lavelle, Elise Barricelli and Alyssa Romagnoli teamed up for a 3:51.71, 4x400 relay performance, the fastest time in the MAAC and 10th fastest in program history.
