QU Scores Three Times in Second Half, Wins Season Opener for 4th Straight Year
HAMDEN, Conn. - Quinnipiac women's soccer scored three times in the second half of Thursday's season opener, downing Lafayette on the road by the final score of 3-0.
After both teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half, Courtney Chocol was able to find the back of the net twice in the second half to secure the first multi goal game of her career. Anna Costello scored Quinnipiac's second goal of the contest, netting the first collegiate goal of the sophomore's career. Junior keeper Sofia Lospinoso stopped the only two shots she saw in net en route to earning her first shutout of the 2022 campaign.

Second Half
- (59' – Quinnipiac 1, Lafayette 0): Senior Markela Bejleri dribbled the ball into the box and drew a foul, resulting in a penalty shot. Junior Courtney Chocol took the assignment for the penalty shot and drilled a shot off her right foot past the keeper to push Quinnipiac ahead 1-0.
- (68' – Quinnipiac 1, Lafayette 0): Bejleri dribbled the ball just outside of the box on the far side of the field and sent a cross to Chocol, who headed the ball off of the post. After the deflection and ricochet off a Lafayette defender, Anna Costello corralled the ball and shot back left corner over the keeper's shoulder to double Quinnipiac's lead.
- (78' – Quinnipiac 3, Lafayette 0): Junior Rebecca Cooke dribbled the ball into the box from the far side of the field and sauced the ball over to Chocol who had a clear shot one-on-one with the keeper and lined it to the far right corner of the net past the keeper.
- The Bobcats out-shot the Leopards 14-5 with 10 shots on goal.
- Chocol scored her fifth and sixth goals of her career. She led the team with four shots on the day.
- Costello scored her first goal of the season and career in the match
- Cooke added an assist to bring her career total to five
- Cooke's assist in the contest gave her a point on the day, bringing her career total to 37
- Lospinoso made two saves in the net and notched her first shutout of the season.
- The Bobcats dominated in the offensive third, earning six corner kicks and allowing just one for the Leopards.
UP NEXT"We struggled with the wind and the surface in the first half but settled down in the second," Clarke said. "We made better decisions on and off the ball which led to chances and we took them. Sofia's save at 0-0 was a key moment in the game so she deserves as much credit as the goal scorers."
- The Bobcats will return to action when they take on the Stony Brook Seawolves in Quinnipiac's home-opener on Thursday, August 25 at 3 p.m.
