
Bobcats' Offense Explodes for 18 runs in Win Over Saint Joseph's

Donofrio and Melnick led the way with four RBIs apiece, while Kyle Maves and Sam LaChance added two RBI apiece as well in the victory.
The Bobcats improved to 1-2 on the 2022 campaign with the win, while the Hawks fell to 2-1 with the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bobcats struck first for four runs in the opening frame, all with two outs in the inning. With one out in the inning, Kyle Maves drilled a double to right and stole third during the following at-bat. With two outs in the frame, Keegan O'Connor singled to the left side to put the Bobcats ahead 1-0. After McGwire Tuffy was hit by a pitch, Sam LaChance lined a two-run double to right to extend the Bobcats' lead to 3-0. Danny Melnick immediately followed with an RBI single to wrap the four-run frame for Quinnipiac.
The Hawks responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning, however, Maves hit an RBI sac-fly to center to give the Bobcats a 5-1 lead. After Saint Joseph's posted three runs in the second, QU responded with four of its own in the third. With the bases loaded, Tuffy and LaChance scored on back-to-back wild pitches to give QU a 7-4 lead. Julian Uejima followed by reaching on a fielder's choice, allowing Melnick to score to increase the Bobcats' lead to four. Sebastian Mueller stepped to the plate and lined an RBI single to right to give QU a 9-4 advantage.
With Quinnipiac leading 9-5 entering the fourth, Melnick pushed the lead to 12-5 behind his three-run homer to left. Tuffy launched his own solo shot in the sixth to extend the Bobcat lead to 13-7 before QU eventually held on for the 18-8 victory.

- Tate Copeland got the start and took a no-decision after giving up four earned runs and striking out five in two innings of action
- Jimmy Hagan earned the victory after tossing two innings of relief, allowing just two runs
- The Bobcats will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 25 when they open a three-game series on the road against No. 10 NC State
- Friday's game is set for a 3 p.m. start, with Saturday and Sunday's contests beginning at noon each day
