Bobcats edged in game one, game two paused due to weather
Quinnipiac's second game against the Bison was paused due to weather. The teams plan to continue the game where it left off tomorrow, Sunday, Feb. 20 at 2 p.m. In addition, Quinnipiac added a game on Sunday against Iowa State at 10 a.m.
Highlights:
First Inning – The Bobcats scored the game's first run early on in the first inning. With the bases loaded, senior Bridget Nasir hit a single to center field, allowing sophomore Kayla Thomas to score from third base. Howard would add two runs of their own in the bottom of the first to take a 2-1 lead.
Third Inning - Thomas tallied her first home run of the season to tie the game, 2-2.
Fourth Inning - The Bobcats exploded in the fourth inning and scored three more runs to take a 5-2 lead. Serena Fogg, Cy Gonzalez and Kayla Jensen all tallied runs. Alyssa Noce, Thomas and Jensen notched an RBI each.
The Bison would make a strong comeback and add two runs in both the sixth and seventh inning to earn a 6-5 win.
Notable Stats:
- Thomas hit her first home run of the season and fourth of her career. She went 2-3 on the day with two runs, two RBIs and a walk.
- Serena Fogg went 3-3 at bat and added one run.
- In her first collegiate start in the cirlce, first-year Jaclyn Gonzalez pitched 5.1 innings with four earned runs and three strikeouts. First-year Sydney Horan also made her first collegiate appearance in the circle late in the game and gave up two runs.
- Howard's Mia Gonzales pitched 2.1 innings with one strikeout, and Analise De Le Roca pitched 4.2 with two strikeouts and three earned runs against.
Quinnipiac completed the 2021 season today, as the team did not qualify for the MAAC Tournament.
