QU Clinches No. 1 Seed, Earns Home Field in MAAC Men's Soccer Tournament

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — Despite a 1-0 loss to Niagara on Wednesday afternoon, the Quinnipiac men's soccer team clinched the 2022 MAAC Men's Soccer regular season title and has home field advantage in the upcoming postseason tournament thanks to an Iona loss at Saint Peter's on Wednesday afternoon.

They will host the MAAC Men's Soccer semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 10 and, with a win, the MAAC Men's Soccer Final on Sunday, Nov. 13.

SCORING

44' - Niagara 1, Quinnipiac 0 - Rodrigo Almeida took advantage of a ball splitting the Quinnipiac back line and he chipped it over a charging Quinnipiac keeper for the game's only goal.

STATS AND NOTES

The Bobcats claim their second regular season title in the last three seasons after they won the Spring 2021 title. It is their fifth regular season title overall (2013, 2014, 2016, Spring 2021, 2022).
Eric Da Costa's club has finished inside the top two in four of the last five seasons and is looking for its first NCAA Tournament berth since 2013.
Karl Netzell finished the day with five saves, one off his career high. It is his fourth game of five or more saves this season.

UP NEXT
The Bobcats will host the lowest remaining seed on Thursday, Nov. 10 in the MAAC semifinals. If No. 6 Fairfield upsets No. 3 Manhattan, the Stags will head to Hamden. If Manhattan wins, Quinnipiac will host the winner of No. 4 Niagara and No. 5 Siena.
