HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac men's soccer program readies for its first home MAAC contest on Saturday afternoon in Hamden, as the Bobcats play host to Saint Peter's at 2:00 PM on ESPN+.
SCOUTING SAINT PETER'S
- Saint Peter's is 2-4-1 so far this year. The Peacocks dropped their most recent contest, the MAAC opener, against Sacred Heart by the final score of 2-1 in New Jersey.
- Tim Strele leads the program with seven goals already this season. He scored four times earlier in September in a contest against George Washington.
- Quinnipiac is 6-7-2 against SPU dating back to 2003. The Bobcats won the lone 2022 meeting, then the two programs played to a 2-2 draw in 2023. QU did not play Saint Peter's during the 2024 campaign.
- Sivert Ryssdalsnes leads the way for QU with 10 points via 4 goals and 2 assists.
- Andrew Monteserin and Luke Schierenbeck have each scored twice.
- Nine different Bobcats have recorded a goal already in 2025.
- Quinnipiac has scored 12 goals, which is tied for the most of any MAAC program.
- The Quinnipiac men's soccer team was picked fourth in MAAC preseason poll, as announced by the league office on Wednesday, Aug. 13.
- QU received 120 points, tied with Marist, who received a first place vote.
- The two teams finished fourth and fifth in the league a season ago.
- The Bobcats went 7-9-1 (4-4-0) last season and earned the fourth seed, hosting the MAAC Quarterfinals.
- Quinnipiac fell to No. 5 seeded Marist 2-1 in Hamden, Conn. on Sunday, Nov. 10.
- After starting 1-4 in MAAC play last season, QU rattled off three-straight wins to move into contention for the postseason.
- They defeated Merrimack 3-2 at home with goals from returners Juan Hernandez and Luke Schierenbeck before shutting out Niagara on the road.
- They finished their run with a 3-1 win over Fairfield.
- Andrew Monteserin had three goals in the final two games of the season.
- Head Coach Eric Da Costa enters his 21st season with the Bobcats in 2025. Da Costa is 155-145-62 in his tenure at Quinnipiac.
- Da Costa has built a strong reputation for success at QU, leading the Bobcats to the postseason conference tournament in 12 of the last 13 seasons (2012 in the NEC, 2013-2022).
- The Bobcats have reached the MAAC title game five times under Da Costa, reaching the NCAA Tournament twice. He was also named the 2022 MAAC Coach of the Year for his outstanding leadership.
- The Bobcats return 18 players from a season ago, including seven of their ten top scorers.
- William Holum returns with the most points of any Bobcat from last year, scoring three goals and making three assists.
- Matt Pisani and Drew Seguro each return for their fifth season in Hamden.
- Seguro and Alex Miller were named captains this past spring, combined they have played in 77 games.
- The Bobcats welcome ten newcomers to Hamden before the start of the 2025 season.
- The group includes two transfers and eight first years. Taiga Matoba (Perth, Aus.) played at Monroe University and Flavio Di Palma (Sabaudia, Italy) joins QU after playing at Governors State.
- Quinnipiac's eight first years include, Erik Willke (Tromsø, Norway), Didac Glories (Valencia, Spain), Mateo Balbino (Ludlow, Mass.), Taehyeon Lim (Montreal, QC, Can.), Aleks Swider (Harwinton, Conn.), Sindri Sigurjonsson (Mosfellsbaer, Iceland), Remy Barone (Toronto, Ont, Can.), Sixten Karlsson (Stockholm, Sweden).
- The 17-game schedule features eight home games at Quinnipiac Soccer and Lacrosse Stadium.
- QU's home opener is against Caldwell on Sept. 11 after starting out on the road for four games.
- They will then open their MAAC schedule on Sept. 20 against Marist.
- The Bobcats will honor their seniors in their final home game on Nov. 1 against Niagara and finish their season on the road against Merrimack on Nov. 5.
