ST. PAUL, Minn. – Quinnipiac men's ice hockey senior assistant captain Zach Metsa and first-year goaltender Yaniv Perets have been nominated for the 2022 Hobey Baker Award, as announced on Wednesday, Jan. 12.
Metsa and Perets are two of 77 nominees for this year's Hobey Baker Award, and two of 11 from ECAC Hockey. This is the 42nd year of the Hobey Baker Award, presented annual to the top NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey player.

Quinnipiac has had three players in its program history named as finalists for the Hobey Baker Award, most recently Odeen Tufto and Keith Petruzzelli, who both reached the Top 10 for last season's award. Chase Priskie '19 was a Top 10 Finalist in 2019 and Reid Cashman '07 was selected as a Top 10 Finalist in 2005 while Eric Hartzell '13 was Hobey Hat Trick finalist in 2013, reaching the final three.
Metsa continues to be among the nation's top defensemen as he currently ranks inside the national top 10 in points (18), assists (16), and plus/minus (+17) amongst blue liners in Division I. The ECAC Hockey October Player of the Month leads the Bobcats in all three of those categories as well.
The Wisconsin native leads a defensive core that is currently tops in the country with 1.11 goals against per game and that has allowed less than 20 shots on goal in 13 of the 18 games that Quinnipiac has played this year.
Perets is in the midst of a record-setting season in terms of goaltending statistics, as the first-year netminder is currently 9-0-2 on the year with a 0.87 goals against average and a .947 save percentage, which are both top three in the nation.
The Quebec native has allowed just one goal in his last four starts and recently saw a shutout streak of 247:57 come to an end in the second period against LIU. The streak was the 11th-longest in NCAA Men's Division I history and the longest in Quinnipiac's program history.
He has earned consecutive ECAC Hockey/MAC Goaltending Goalie of the Month awards in November and December and was the Goalie of the Week on November 8.
