Bobcats Selected First in Preseason Poll, Two Players All-League

De Jong and Metsa Earn Preseason Honors
ALBANY, N.Y. - Senior assistant captains Ethan De Jong and Zach Metsa both earned Preseason All-ECAC Hockey honors as voted on by the league's coaches and announced on September 27. The coaches also selected Quinnipiac men's ice hockey as the number one team in the 2021-22 preseason coaches' poll.
De Jong enters his senior season after recording career-highs of 14 goals, 15 assists, 29 points, eight power-play goals, and 99 shots on goal a season ago. The British Columbia native led the team in the power-play goals (2nd in the nation) and was 11th in the nation in goals.
Metsa, a 2020-21 ECAC Hockey First Team member, played all 29 games last season and has played in every game for the past two years. He also posted career-highs of five goals, 21 assists, and 26 points, while leading the team with 31 blocked shots. He led the nation's defensmen in assists, points, power-play assists, and power-play points.

The Bobcats are slated to open the 2021-22 season Oct. 8-9 the Ice Breaker Tournament, hosted by Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. Quinnipiac will face Boston College on Oct. 8 and Northeastern on Oct. 9. Both games are scheduled for 4 p.m. puck drops.
