Bobcats End Regular Season with Two Losses vs Fairfield

HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac softball team dropped its final two games of the regular season against Fairfield at home on Tuesday, May 4. The Bobcats were edged, 5-4, in the first game of the doubleheader and dropped the second game, 5-2. This was the Bobcats' final series of the season, as the team did not qualify for the 2021 MAAC Tournament.
Sophomore Katherine Rodriguez went 5-7 at the plate with two runs. Quinnipiac finished the season with an 8-22 record, and the Stags improved to 20-12 overall.
Highlights Game 1 (L, 4-5):
Third Inning – After the Stags took a 3-0 lead, the Bobcats came firing back in the bottom of the third inning. With first-year Ela Henry on first base, sophomore Katherine Rodriguez hit a single down the left field line. First-year Kayla Thomas stepped up to bat and hit a three-run home run to tie the game.
Sixth Inning - The Bobcats added one more run in the sixth inning to take a 4-3 lead over the Stags. First-year Cy Gonzalez reached first base on a fielder's choice, and first-year Gianna Palmisano scored from third base off an error by Fairfield's shortstop.
In the top of the seventh, Fairfield tallied two runs to take a 5-3 lead and held the Bobcats off to win game one.

Highlights Game 2 (L, 2-5):
First Inning - The Bobcat took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Rodriguez got the inning started with a single to third base. Senior Kayla Jensen hit a double, allowing Rodriguez to score.
Seventh Inning - Henry hit a single to left field to start the inning. Rodriguez then hit a single to right field, and Henry advanced to third. Thomas stepped up and hit an RBI-single up the middle, allowing Henry to score.
The Stags closed the inning with a 5-2 lead and earned the second win of the day.

Quinnipiac completed the 2021 season today, as the team did not qualify for the MAAC Tournament.
